CNN) -- Internet connections across Syria went down Tuesday night...

Google reported that its services became inaccessible in Syria around 9:45 p.m. (2:45 p.m. ET)....

The website for Syria's state-run news agency and several government websites were not accessible...

Opposition activists reported widespread power and Internet outages in Damascus and throughout the country, warning that the communications cutoff could be an ominous sign. "

Considering all the bad publicity that Assad has had for 2 years, it seems unusual that he'd worry with cutting off the inet now.  Wonder what else it could portend...
