Ahh, but she is after all discussing people when she said that, so thank you fo placing me in the same group as Eleanore Roosevelt :P

defending people from what I perceive as slander is an acceptble use o my small mind I think.

as for militias - potentislly dangerous but that's the price of liberty.

I must not fear. Fear is the Mind-Killer. It is the little death that brings total obliteration. I will face my fear.
I will permit it to pass over me and to move through me. And when it is gone I will turn the inner eye to see it's path.
When the fear is gone, there will be nothing. Only I will remain.

You may think you're cool, but you'll never be as cool as Peter Capaldi with an electric guitar, on a tank, playing the Doctor Who theme.

No one is personally being slandered. One will be eaten alive if they become so emotionally invested they feel they have a need to defend others from slander everytime they come online when it is only groups being discussed.

You are also right, militias are potentially dangerous, but we will disagree on the insinuation that they somehow are the regulators of freedom.

When they get arrested we laugh but only if no one is hurt. Below is a list that seems almost comedic if not for the serious nature of their crimes.

Our three branches of our federal government and law enforcement are the regulators of freedom.

I don't think they're the regulators of freedom. they are, however, a symptom of it.
that every "beer drinking simpleton" freely create and join a militia is a sure sign that they're not needed. it's when such associations are barred that they're necessary.

that people you consider dangerously inebriated and less educared then is seemly can create something we both agree is potentislly dangerous as a militia ia a aure sign that noone is trying to curtail freedoms.

when someone says they can't do so it's a sign that smething is wrong with society, the first thing (ohh here comes a Godwinning) the Nazis did was crack down on indivdual armed groups, same with the Stalinists.

Also we didn't have the numbers. From 2006-2009/10 a single Battle Group from Canada was fighting in the heartland of the Taliban (thats 2000 people covering a province of 1.15 Million People). We did an excellent job given the circumstances but we where stretched way to thin...

As an aside, and an older fellow Canadian, I'd like to thank you for for that service. The disproportionate number of casualties you guys suffered compared to 'the rest' was not acceptable.

Sorry for that.

Meanwhile, back to the subject at hand...

The problem I have with this is that those who think that violence is an acceptable means of resolving political conflicts are those cheering and applauding this. I could not care less about what people want to do with their time off, playing war games is just one way to keep those who don't know anything better to do with their time out of trouble.

Now, that those who are incapable of communicating and persuading the public at large see that as a way to get their way through violence is the most despicable and anti-American thing I have ever heard of... barring child porn, of course.

And the funniest thing is that those "freedom fighters" come with ideas that are hardly are worth debating, so we will substitute fiat currency for fiat gold value to enable growth over .02% (which is about what the amount of gold growth by annually). We will fire the police because we don't want to pay taxes and arm every citizen to defend himself.

We will return the laws back to 1787, wherein it will be funny trying to find enough people to hold elective office as hardly anybody outright owns his properties...but maybe they want to be ruled by the banks... makes more sense... gives enough time to have a beer on election day instead of standing in line to vote, the few thousand can dice the positions by drawing out of a hat.

Last but not least, we will adopt a neo-Amish approach to education, if it is not mentioned in the bible it cannot be true and therefore we will remove all books from libraries that mention something not in there. And certainly we will not teach anything the preachers don't like.

And then some wonder why they have to yaddah about revolutions to get their ideas implemented.....

Ah yes, to end my rant: I really resent that the above specimens call themselves "patriots"... but then again it is not the only word they are abusing lately.

I honestly don't see the harm in having a militia to be honest.
Let's say something like "Red Dawn" (Patrick Swayze...sigh...) ever happened? COULD that ever happen, well, most likely not. It probably would never happen, but if it helps people to sleep better at night, thinking their prepared and can protect their families, what's the harm?
It's like during the Cuban Missile Crisis, when they were teaching people to "duck and cover". Well, what's that going to do against a missile or atomic bomb? Not much. But it MADE people feel like they could do something.
Look, I'm a worrier by nature. I worry about things that I KNOW have a 1% or 2% chance of happening. And when you have kids...Well, you REALLY start to worry then. If having a militia or "prepping" make me feel safer and make me feel like I'm taking care of my family, I don't really see that as crazy. I see it has being prepared.
