'Britain's Atlantis' found at bottom of North sea - a huge undersea world swallowed by the sea in 6500BC
  • Divers have found traces of ancient land swallowed by waves 8500 years ago
  • Doggerland once stretched from Scotland to Denmark
  • Rivers seen underwater by seismic scans
  • Britain was not an island - and area under North Sea was roamed by mammoths and other giant animals
  • Described as the 'real heartland' of Europe
  • Had population of tens of thousands - but devastated by sea level rises

I think underwater archeology is absolutely fascinating. :geek:

Anyway, I believe there was a Discovery Channel program that talked about this not that long ago.

Now alI I want to know what's British about Doggerland?

And not even the name was coined by a British scientist as you can read everywhere, but by a Dutch guy, Overwijn, in 1941:

613 Overwijn. J.F., - De strekking van het O.L.B. Onze voorvaderen: de West-Friezen van Doggerland (Verslag van twee lezingen voor het genootschap 'Yggdrasil'). - Het Vaderland 1941, 25 Maart en 10 Apr.

If the land mass originally included Ireland....why are there no snakes in Ireland?

Ireland split of very early when the country was still in near deepfreeze, and long before Doggerland got flooded.

I thought St. Patrick chased all the snakes out of Ireland, according to legend, anyway...

This was on the tele the other night. Fascinating yes and pretty scary too, carry on like this, there will be nothing left of this little isle, not to worry, we always got Mars.

In an ideal World a law would be passed were NO guns were allowed and all those out there destroyed, trouble is the law makers are not going to take a risk of trying to pass that without making sure they are armed first.

I am getting confused, we have another thread telling us the world will dry up and then we have this one showing us we will be under water in years to come.
I need to know do I put my wellies on or my bikini?
