  • Such an ugly feeling that won't leave.

At the funeral we held our peace
taking turns saying good-bye
I chose not to but at the hospital
visited her soon after she died
tell her "hi" knowing
she is still here with us

At the luncheon they pretended
claws remained retracted
he used to be your best friend
he used to be your brother-in-law
my father said and spoke of him
"The main ringleader is right there"

The man who riled up everyone
in our family against your mother
your uncle, your mother's brother
who talked to me of his dying craft
said he couldn't be a Christian
out in the open while on the clock

Do you miss your first wife?
is what I wanted to ask
my father's sister
my mother's old best friend
a brother and sister once
married to another sister and brother

It would not last
the main ringleader is right there
he spoke to me of the dying fields
