Yes I agree Bill Gates is crazy.
He can't just give money and fix the world's probs.

For example teen pregancy.. or gang violence.
How does money solve those problems?
Maybe world hunger could be helped with money...
but certain problems like depression of young people
can't be fixed with money.

It's actually the opposite. World hunger cannot be solved by money but gang violence and teen pregnancy can be significantly dented.

I don't think Gates is crazy. He sees the problems, wants to help alleviate them, and is willing to commit his wealth to doing so. To what degree he's successful kinda doesn't matter, because at least he's seeking solutions, being pro-active, and is providing financial support to a lot of very smart people who have the education, knowledge, and experience to come up with viable solutions. Unlike many people, he's actually doing something. There's a lot of whiners out there who decry the woes of the world and criticize the efforts of others, and do absolutely nothing themselves at any level: community, county, state, national, or international to become a part of the solution. Because that's the hard part, isn't it? Getting out of the house to do volunteer work, or opening your checkbook to make a donation, working together with strangers; it gets us out of our comfort zone, for sure.

Last time you invited me (to your blog instead of a post) I actually spent lots of time thinking about it and commenting but never got feedback. Conversations have to be two-way.

Apologies, a response will be forthcoming.

Whenever we present our thoughts & ideas we're always influencing people one way or another. Maybe in small ways, but nevertheless, it's there.

The good news in the US is that teen pregnancy rates have gone down considerably.

This sounds self-referential, Panto.

At least Gates is using his money for good.  Sure we bought his product....but don't we do that with celebrities?   How wealthy is Tom Cruise?  How many people have paid hundreds of dollars going to his movies?  Has he done anything good for people in neef or has he just sat on his millions?  You want to point fingers, look at people who haven't at least put out an innovative product that is useful in everyday life.

Save the Earth! It's the only planet with chocolate!

True.  But that doesn't interest me.  It is merely an unavoidable side effect of being a living human being.

It's also true that male sperm counts have gone down........Drop in teen pregnancy rates something to celebrate or something to take a warning from?

Eh...........no, actually.  You see, once you come off power, you don't have any foes.  I have said this before and got the response, "well I'm not your friend", from I can't remember who.  That is irrelevant.  Everybody is my friend, even if they don't know it, even if they think they are my enemy.  It's a state of mind which comes from being healthy from having recovered from my addiction to power.

The sad thing for you is that, though I know you are unaware of it, your unrelenting hostility is the cause of your own Despair.
