You quoted just before I could do an edit, so, to be only slightly tounge in cheek, only slightly. Rome never fell, why? because in 1447 Ivan IV was crowned first Tsar of Russia. His mother was a niece of Constantine XI Palaiologos. So by blood, and by religion, when New Rome, the second Rome, fell six years later, Russia became the Third Rome, there being no interegnum due Ivan IV already being in place. Ivan IV of course being a conqueror himself. Kazan and then Siberia, quite a large area I believe
