Norwegian mass killer Anders Behring Breivik has applied for a place at Oslo University - a move that is reportedly causing outrage among staff.

The head of the university's political science institute confirmed a request had been made by the man whose attacks two years ago traumatised Norway.

No decision has been made on whether to accept it, Ole Petter Ottersen added.

Knut Bjarkeid, the director of Ila prison where Breivik is being held, told TV2 the jail would always try to help its inmates "get a formal qualification so that they have the ability to get a job when they come out".

I could not live in Norway.  They are entitled to whatever legal code they choose but this seems insane to me.  This man might actually be released someday... it fair boggles the mind...

It may not sound nice but I'd have hanged him by the neck from a lampost as soon as he was found guilty.

this sickens me to the 3rd degree, people like this should rot in the smallest and dirtiests cells possible, yet they get the cushion to the fact that they dont have to pay rent and they have a roof over their heads, line them up and put two in the cranium in my opinion

He wants to study "Political Science" aka: his chosen career path if he is ever released will be in Politics and he will be representing himself when he comes up for parole using Norway's own laws against them.

If I was the head of that department I'd let him study and then put a big fat FAIL on his file after he has sweated it for such time - I'm sadistic that way.

"I warn you, whoever you are, oh you who wish to probe the arcanes of nature, if you do not find within yourself that which you seek, neither shall you find it outside.
If you ignore the excellencies of your own house, how do you intend to find other excellencies?
In you is hidden the treasure of treasures, Oh man, know thyself and you shall know the Universe and the Gods."
