At least one million cockroaches have escaped a farm in China where they were being bred for use in traditional medicine, a report said.

The cockroaches fled the facility in Dafeng, in the eastern province of Jiangsu, for surrounding cornfields earlier this month after an "unknown perpetrator" destroyed the plastic greenhouse where they were raised, the Modern Express newspaper said.

And a million cockroaches cried: FREEDOM!!!!!

'A phantom,' said my Uncle Mycroft, who had just materialised, 'is essentially a heteromorphic wave pattern that gains solidity when the apparition converts thermal energy from the surroundings to visible light. It's a fascinating process and I'm amazed no one has thought of harnessing it - a holographic TV that could operate from the heat given off by an average-size guinea pig.' ~ First Among Sequels, Jasper Fforde

Cockroach flavoured medicine?  Yikes!

A 'cure' for impotence, perhaps.

Well, that sucks.  That many roaches and unless they are in the middle of the desert (not noted for its great corn growing ability) they will almost certainly establish themselves as an invasive species.  I raise a few species of roaches to feed to my other bugs and I make sure to have poison spread around to kill any escapees to prevent introduction.
