Quote

WASHINGTON (AP) — Striving to take action where Congress would not, the Obama administration announced new steps Thursday on gun control, curbing the import of military surplus weapons and proposing to close a little-known loophole that lets felons and others circumvent background checks by registering guns to corporations.

Four months after a gun control drive collapsed spectacularly in the Senate, President Barack Obama added two more executive actions to a list of 23 steps the White House determined Obama could take on his own to reduce gun violence. With the political world focused on Mideast tensions and looming fiscal battles, the move signaled Obama's intent to show he hasn't lost sight of the cause he took up after 20 first graders and six adults were gunned down last year in an elementary school in Newtown, Conn.

Good luck taking firearms from Southerners.  The Federal Government tried to infringe on our rights and way of life once before.  Didn't turn out so well.

Time is a wheel in constant motion always rolling us along.  Tell me who wants to look back on their years and wonder where those years have gone?

Between Bush and Obama, they've officially destroyed the Fourth Amendment.

You're referring to when the North invaded the South? Yeah..

That didn't turn out well for anyone.

I wouldn't say its an anti gun agenda more of a pro "citizens being unable to stand up against all the horrible crap being done" agenda

I'm not sure how I feel about this.. They aren't actually taking away anyone guns, or barring the sales of guns in country. They are restricting the import of guns from out of country sources, and possibly restricting people like felons from getting guns. On the surface it does not look too bad, but I do have to wonder what lurks beneath...

How are we (citizens) supposed to be able to "stand up against all the horrible crap being done" by our government if we don't have guns? It is definetly a anti-gun agenda. Anyone that thinks otherwise hasn't been paying attention.

" Mighty little force is needed to control a man whose mind has been hoodwinked; contrariwise, no amount of force can control a free man, a man whose mind is free. No, not the rack, not fission bombs, not anything —you can't conquer a free man; the most you can do is kill him" - Robert Heinlein

I'm in favor of restricting felons from getting guns. I don't disagree with that at all.

However, as you pointed out, there is a catch.

I'm aware of that. I probably should have worded my post better.

I meant I support the restrictions already in place.

I didn't mean I supported creating restrictions for felons; that would be redundant.

(I have a friend - not a friend anymore - who is a felon)

but new steps have nothing to do with it,

99% of military surplus weapons are 50+ years old bolt action rifles, that are sold following same rules and regulation that any other new hunting rifle build in usa does.

also i have not heard of single case when a felon regestered a gun to a corparation. have you?

Democrats in the states tend to be "anti-gun," and Republicans often the opposite.  However, in most countries both the left and the right support banning all private use of guns.  The Americas in general and some Islamic countries are anomalous.

Because in a democracy single-issue voters often get their way regardless, it doesn't  seem likely that much more than what has already been done will happen in the states, in spite of ongoing gun-caused tragedies.

This is in fact a fairly minor thing in the picture of what is happening in the States, but can seen as symptomatic of its general decline.  That people talk about their need to have guns to protect themselves both from criminals (because guns are so easy for criminals to get) and from the government is to me even more indicative of the country's moral and social decline.
