Emerging from my usual Sunday afternoon state yesterday (regaining consciousness beneath a bar-stool in the Snug) I had the idea for a thread containing little-known facts.

Here's a couple to give you the idea...maybe it'll work - maybe it won't.....

All of Santa's reindeer were female because male reindeer have shed their antlers before the Christmas period

A 'jiffy' is an actual unit of time = 1/100th of a second

Any month that starts on a Sunday will have a Friday 13th. in it.

OK - over to you....or not, as the case may be.

Bamboo is not a plant...it's a type of grass.

Strawberries are the only fruit with seeds on the outside.

Monarch butterflies live between 6-8 weeks, except each fourth generation which migrates to warmer winter climes and lives for approx 8 months.

Anatidaephobia is the "Fear that sometime, somewhere, somehow, a duck is watching you." :unsure2:  :passifier:

I've never trusted ducks. If two female cockroaches are stuck somewhere with no males one will change sex

The average person's skin accounts for approx 16% of their body weight. This means the skin of an average person will weigh more (~20 pounds) than an average-sized house cat (~ 12 pounds).

It is possible, by the laws of thermodynamics, to put a pot of water on a fire and have it freeze(needless to say it is almost infinitely unlikely)

The shortest war in history was between Zanzibar and England in 1896. Zanzibar surrendered after 38 minutes.

Britain is the only country in the world which doesn’t have the country’s name on its postage stamps.

Rhinoceros horn is made mostly of keratin like hair and fingernails. (I was worried about ducks and now I have to watch out for donkeys too?)
