The glass slipper in 'Cinderella' is the result of a mis-translation from its original French. Originally it was a fur slipper. Vair = fur.....Verre = glass.

The popular house/garden plant, the geranium, was originally wrongly named due to a catalogue error. The intended name was the 'pelargonium' but by the time the mistake was noticed the name geranium had stuck.
