The origins of Halloween date back over 2000 years to the ancient Celtic festival of Samhain (pronounced sow-in). This festival, which means the end of summer, celebrated the end of harvest and the beginning of the Celtic new year on November 1st.

When the cold and dark winter nights drew in people's thoughts often turned to death.
