Contact lenses sharpen our blurry vision,  and free us from the hassle of pushing sliding glasses back up our noses. But the future of contacts is nigh: Researchers have created a super-thin infrared sensor that could lead to the development of night vision contact lenses.

Yes it would if they can solve the problem of strong lighting in the visible spectrum blinding you.  If would be great for night driving.

I can see a lot of applications for this. It would be cool if they figure how to make it switch modes from light to dark so they can be worn in multiple environments.

Short of a perfect solution, but strong light problem can overcome by wearing a single lens.
