Medium? Fraud? or Crazy?
None of the above.

He's clearly an alien hybrid.

Yeah, you tell him that and see if he does not rant and cry and complain and say he is not a "full blown alcoholic" because he does not get the shakes. He might get the shakes, I wouldn't even know because he has not missed a day of drinking since I got out of the Navy, and that was over 3 years ago.

The misery of DT's could be mistaken for paranormal happenstance.

Yep. A buddy of mine told me a while back that when he went through the DT's he was hallucinating that the doctors (who were in reality trying to help him) were black market organ thieves attempting to harvest his organs.

It wouldn't be a far stretch for someone in the same state to see ghosts, aliens or Nazi stormtroopers.

Alcoholics in denial are difficult to help and sometimes must reach absolute bottom before they admit it to themselves; sometimes they never admit it and die.

The latter applies to the aforementioned friend of mine.
He knew his pancreas was on the verge of being shot but didn't care. i have no clue what's become of him now...

Chances are he did care but was too afraid to face it.

Well, you hit the nail on the head when you say "low self esteem" because I swear he hates himself. There is a viscious cycle he has fallen into and that is getting picked on and being "uncool" or a "loser" in school he never really had to many real friends or girlfriends. This has lowered his self esteem which in turn keeps him from actively seeking new friends or relationships with people, this lonliness lower his self esteem even more and the cycle continues until the end of time, add on an unhealthy dose of self medication to forget his problems, and an over active imagination and you have the finished product. At least this is how I see it.
Your family history suggests ample reason for low self esteem, depression and what has become "familiar" to him [think: family] is severe dysfunction and people who are on par with your parents.  Sorry to be so blunt but the best medicine can be the truth.  And thanks for your honesty too.  People rarely look back to see where problems begin.  Instead they seem stuck and wondering "why is this happening??".  It isn't hard to figure out.  Take it from one who knows from first hand experience..

Roy Don hasn't been on in two weeks. Was there any follow-up? I wonder what's been happening...

Yeah, I meant to post more often but I have become far too busy to check forums lately with working and school. There is not much to say other than the same stuff. He has not gotten any worse and I feel that my constant bickering, nagging and getting in his personal life is going to just cause a rift between us. I have deceided to just not worry and address major issues as they come. Thanks for the interest though.

It does sound like Schizophrenia if he really is hearing voices.  I think he needs to see a psychiatrist no matter.  He is clearly having adjustment issues.
