Around 250,000 letters sent through the post at this time of year are addressed to "Reindeerland". This mythical place is, in fact, not a secret grotto in the wilds of Lapland - but a sorting office in a very ordinary-looking tower block in Belfast. It is here that boys and girls from around Britain send their festive requests to Father Christmas; each letter is opened by hand, read by the Royal Mail's "elves" and replied to by return of post.
