In Saudi Arabia for 4-Hour Stop, Obama Admin Books Rooms at Ritz, Marriott, Radisson

Brief trip will cost taxpayers $267,787

President Barack Obama’s visit to Riyadh, Saudi Arabia is costing taxpayers $267,787 in hotel and SUV rentals, according to contracts issued by the State Department.

The president is traveling to Saudi Arabia on Tuesday to meet their newly crowned monarch King Salman and to pay respects to King Abdullah, who died on Friday.

President Obama and the First Lady will arrive in Riyadh on Tuesday afternoon to attend delegation introductions, a bilateral meeting, and dinner at Erga Palace, before flying back to Washington overnight.

What I found interesting was the fact that Obama took the time to fly to Saudi Arabia....

...but couldn't find it in his schedule to fly to Paris ....

He saw the mistake he made regarding Paris and has decided to try to avoid the same mistake in future. It is ironic that this is the first test.

I find it more worrysome that it is costing Saudi people money to protect the president of the US.

I'm pretty sure it'll be the US taxpayer footing the bill, don't worry. :)

If he is going to be there 4 hours, why does he need a hotel?

To accommodate his ego. It doesn't put up with merely being stowed in a hangar at the airport any more, it demands several floors of a top rate hotel all to itself.

It ALWAYS costs the locals stupid amounts of money to protect and pander to the whims and demands of the President.

Frankly, if I were the Prime Minister of Australia, I'd never invite him here solely because of the sheer havoc he causes for everyone involved. Blocked off streets, armed American thugs Secret Service every where.... BAH talk to the sod on the phone save everyone else the hassle.

After the initial welcome on first day of the US President's visit here, the first question the next day was when will he be leaving ...

:tu: Yeah...if I were the SOB (smiling) in charge of Ozzie Land...I wouldn't invite the SOB (frowning) from the White House either.

...taken from The Virginian...a 'wild west' book I read a long time ago...one cowboy slaps the other cowboy on the back and says, What have you been up to you Son of a (Beach)? Then they laugh alot... Another cowboys walks up to The Virginian and says...Why you, son of a (beach)! To which the Virginian replys with a grimace...Smile when you say that!

Sort of off topic, but I would REALLY love to be the First Lady. Each First Lady has the power to really pursue charity work and make a difference in the U.S. Yet, you aren't criticized as much as the President. Like, your actual job is to be sweet and do good. I could do that for sure. Hmmm...

Edit: Also, I get to go on these sweet trips.

American's taxed dollars are also being used by the Obama's Campaign team in Israel to defeat Netanyahu in March ??? The same man who made it possible for Obama to win 2nd election is heading the campaign in Israel to defeat Netanyahu ...I hear that it's normal for outside campaigns to go to other countries to help campaign for or against .

I think there's too much interference with other countries and

not enough involvement where it's needed.

I don't know if they will have any influence in their endeavours over there , in Isreal??? I think it's mean what they're expecting to do/cause.

Oh good lord, ALL presidents take short and seemingly pointless trips half way around the world which cost a butt-load of money and inconvenience everyone. Nothing new here. Your righteous indignation is hysterical.

To be fair... Often a major hotel conference room (or such) is used for Official "Unofficial" meetings... To avoid the pomp and circumstance of a palace or Official Residence... I have no idea if this is what happened here,

just saying there could have been a reasonable explanation...

Because I have a friend who manages a rather large hotel, I can tell you that at least one Raddison hotel comp'd the presidential stay. They don't charge, having the president stay at your hotel is prestigious and good for business.

That's what i'm thinking. Like, who is going to charge the President.

I would... Dang it, if someone uses my services, they pay for my services (Unless she's real pretty and batts her eyelashes...).... Government Employees (like the Prez) should set an example for others... Mr. Obama's salary is

$400,000 a year (not counting "other income")... he can afford it...

True..I guess it is costly to host the President and his entourage, he can afford where some hotels, that could cause a huge dent in their profits. Gosh, I suck at this topic, I have no formed opinion. I'm going to bounce out!

I don't think that you would like her position, she has to obey the rules of security, such as an escort of Secret Service persons to shop in an ordinary store, she can't do a lot of things that you take for granted.and is always in front of cameras with the risk of being shot by some looney.
