keithisco Posted January 29, 2015 #1 Share Posted January 29, 2015 One of the enduring mysteries of England is the whereabouts of the Crown Jewels that were supposedly lost to an incoming tide whilst King John and his entourage were crossing the "Wash". New investigations suggest a slightly different story: The Last Journey of the Magna Carta King follows the monarch's epic last journey across the treacherous marshes of East Anglia to establish whether the crown jewels ended up in the mud of the Wash. For 800 years, King John's treasure hoard was thought to have been 'lost' in the Fens during his journey from King's Lynn to Lincoln in 1216. New evidence which provides clues about the mysterious disappearance of the king's treasure has been unearthed using laser technology and LIDAR survey images. Ealdwita Posted January 29, 2015 #3 Share Posted January 29, 2015 Some historians believe that only a few pack animals were lost in the Wash, and John's illness (or possible poisoning) allowed certain individuals to prevaricate the whole episode. Ealdwita snippet alert.........Lynn wasn't called King's Lynn until Henry VIII dissolved the monasteries in 1538, and the town and manor became royal property.
