Neat.

But...the first missile fired is actually a Sparrow, not a Sidewinder. And the pilot would know not to use air-to-air weaponry against ground targets cluttered with buildings and such. A better choice to combat the tripod would be A-10's or ground forces or an F-15 Strike Eagle armed with precision munitions. Or even a Tomahawk launched from a warship. Apaches could get in low and close, using the buildings as cover. A Hellfire or two should do the trick. Losing that first F-15 is inexcusable.

:unsure2:

Oh, yeah, U-S-A!!!! U-S-A!!! U-S-A!!! Kick those aliens' asses!

Yeah, game over if they don't have shields.

I'm pretty sure the Alien tripods had shields, which meant the F-15's weapons would be useless. Unless the Alien got a cold again like it did in the movies, of course. :P

What makes you so sure about that? In that video, the tripod didn't have shields. And what makes you think shields will render an F-15s weapons useless?

Unless the Alien got a cold again like it did in the movies, of course. :P

If he stays sealed in his tripod, that won't bother him.

Let's assume the tripod is ~1000 ft tall. Given this, the weight the legs would have to carry is immense - yet the narrator says the primary building material is reinforced aluminium?

Whatever is supporting the weight of the tripod has unbelievable structural strength, and it is beyond silly to suppose whatever armours the vehicle is less strong. So, how is one AMRAAM missile capable of knocking this out?

Answer: it's not. You'd need a Tomahawk cruise missile to take out one of these tripods. Not even the Hellfires from an A-10 or Apache would make a dent.

Well, keep in mind, even though I like to nitpick these things too (as an exercise for me mainly), it is just make-believe. Reinforced aluminium probably just sounded "cool" to the narrator. He could have just as easily claimed it was polarized handwavium.

A hellfire could, and an AMRAAM might as well. Depends on the penetration caused and the systems damaged. Suppose the hellfire hit the energy weapon? A Harpoon or Tomahawk would definitely do the job, however, as long as the correct warhead was used.

Unless the tripod has those "magical" shields mentioned earlier. :P
