No Catcall Zone

From the article:

On my walk to work this morning, I came across an unfamiliar yet intensely intriguing street sign. “NO CATCALL ZONE” it read, with the subtitle: “End street harassment.” The graphic, featuring the silhouette of a feline being hollered at by two figures motioning in the background, is actually kind of cute—but the message—that catcalling and unwelcome comments are, unquestionably, harassment in its purest form—is anything but.

Sure they put those up while rejecting my "No Typhus Zone, Keep your lousy kids and louse based diseases in your district of town", "Dysentery Free Area, Stop Pooping in our Water!" and "Lyrical Gipsyless and Mendicant Minstrel Clear Area, Keep Our Town Free of Free Music (brought to you by EMI)".

And though cat calling is in bad taste it will be interesting to see steps taken against it.

Because even a horrible attorney could rip down any case against free speech.

Ah Feminists, Socialists in sheeps clothing

slander! some of us are anarchists, thank you so very much.

and i would never wear sheeps clothing. wool is itchy.

also, there's no violation of free speech going on here, because

they weren’t commissioned by New York City. They’re courtesy of non-profit clothing company feminist apparel—

Maybe I'm just different as I've never really been irritated from catcalls. I usually just yell something sarcastic back at them and it shuts them up.

I remember back when I was maybe 16 or 17, I was trying to cross a busy street. I was half way across, when a trucker reached out his window to try and grab at my chest. I stepped back, naturally, and was almost hit by the traffic coming the other way.

Catcalls are bad enough, but that guy could have gotten me killed.

I don't consider myself an....anything-ist I guess, but catcalls and all that always seemed classless to me.

I guess the signs are a way of making you think about the practice itself, maybe they'll help, who knows

Public harassment of anyone (women, overweight folks, ethic groups, the elderly etc.) should never be tolerated, sign or not. Shouting sexually explicit comments at another person is lewd and unacceptable. This can readily lead to incidents and it's basically just disturbing the peace. Fine the 'big mouths' who think they can shout out gross things. A couple of 100 dollar fines and I'm betting they'll knock it off.
