Still Waters Posted April 25, 2015 #1 Share Posted April 25, 2015 A study from the Texas A&M Health Science Center School of Public Health finds students with standing desks are more attentive than their seated counterparts. In fact, preliminary results show 12 percent greater on-task engagement in classrooms with standing desks, which equates to an extra seven minutes per hour of engaged instruction time. http://phys.org/news...-literally.html
bubblykiss Posted April 25, 2015 #2 Share Posted April 25, 2015 Is there anything else we can do to make the student/puberty experience worse? Maybe have a small amount of water drip on each child very slowly over the course of the entire day.
simplybill Posted April 25, 2015 #3 Share Posted April 25, 2015 I agree with the concept, with one caveat: the schools should provide standing desks for the students who learn more easily while standing, and still continue to provide sitting desks for those students who are able to concentrate without distraction. People have widely varying learning needs. I'm one of those who can barely tolerate sitting for more than a few minutes at a time. If I'd been given the option to stand at the back of the classroom, I think school would have been much more tolerable for me. Even as an adult (61 years old) it's a struggle for me to sit still for a 40-minute sermon on Sunday morning! I try to sit in the least crowded part of the church so I can quietly squirm without distracting my fellow churchgoers. There are great benefits to being a squirmer, though the drawback is that I often feel I'm in prison when forced to sit with non-squirmers for any length of time. quiXilver Posted April 25, 2015 #4 Share Posted April 25, 2015 Couple of my office dwelling friends have switched to standing desks. They love them.
Zalmoxis Posted April 26, 2015 #5 Share Posted April 26, 2015 A faster heart rate promotes faster brain function as the hotter blood flows through the arteries that fuel your brain with oxygen. On the flip side, people with hypothermia or close to it are sort of dumb and borderline retarded when you try and talk with them.
