Land can subside several feet due to crustal movement, but it is fairly rare for anything over a few feet, and certainly nothing like 50 feet.

What seems to have happened here, according to today's paper, is that an internal landslide inside the cliff slid down and under the surface earth, down to below the waterline, pushing the seabed up and out of the water. It has been attributed to the snowmelt in combination with the slippery clay layers of that area.

I figured it was something other than a rise of 50 feet in one day. Just wanted to put it out there.
