Skeleton of 16th century 'pirate' discovered

Recommended Posts

A skeleton discovered buried under a primary school playground could be that of a 16th century pirate, archaeologists have said.

The remains of a man were uncovered by council workers during survey work for an extension at Victoria Primary School in Newhaven, Edinburgh.

Experts at AOC Archaeology carbon dated the bones to the 16th or 17th centuries and, working with forensic artist Hayley Fisher, created a facial reconstruction of the man who is thought to have been in his fifties.

Well he looks like a Brit anyway. Put a beard on him and he'd look a lot more pirate-y. ARRRR MATEY!

What a tremendous opportunity to bring tangible relevance to a school setting. If we could convince ourselves as to the importance of education, perhaps we might be more forthcoming with funding to bring schools to regional research and development settings and immerse the young when they can still dream.

Honestly, I can't be the only one that looked into that face and thought "Oh look, one of the Bush Boys".

The one that Burke and Hare missed

Burke and Hare murdered 16 people and sold the bodies to Dr Robert Knox as dissection material for his anatomy lectures. They didn't dig up the corpses of the dead.
