There was a time when I noticed a strong smell of roses in my bedroom and it was Winter. No windows were open and there wasn't roses in sight in the garden outside.

During this time I was going through some spiritual changes and I wonder if this created the rose scent? Sometimes the sudden arrival of scented roses in the air without an explanation are associated with a visiting spirit or some other type of divine being.

Well theres this legend in Mexico that when someone dies you start to smell roses. It is said that when you smell roses it means thatwhoever died is close. But has anyone heard of this?

I didnt really believe in any of this, until it happend to me. I am not religious, and I am very skeptical of something that cannot be proven. But, here I was...smelling the roses, where no roses and no person had been.  Let me say, that I was in the libary, almost alone, speaking with my wife on my laptop. I was fully focused on the conversation I had with my wife, when all of a sudden, I started to smell roses. First only a little, then later so intense and so fresh as if someone had placed a rose directly under my nose. I started to think of my father right away who had passed away a week ago that day. I wasn't thinking of him much that day, I was very busy with things. During the smell, which lasted about 2 minutes, and slowly faded away, I had a glance at my laptop clock. It was exacty the time that he had passed away last week.  It was exact up to the minute (I was there during the death, and he was awake) and seven days. I got chills for this, but I was also very, very happy.  As sceptical as I was, I needed to know for sure. Although the feeling was very calming and it was telling me that it was my father, I investigated the area, and found no people, no wind blowing (this was indoor)no flowors, or possiblity of perfume. I now accept that the roses connection to death is very likely true. I was very happy that my father visited me. I hope to smell roses like this again.

I always heard that the scent of roses.. or the apportation of roses or rose petals had to do with some message or help from Jesus' Mum... Mary.

There is plenty of information of this on the internet...The Catholics are big on this...

Odd. Well to tell the truth I have a similar experience. My Grandmother and I were very close. I called Her Nanny. Well in june 03 she died of cancer. I swear to this day sometimes I still smell her perfume at my grandparents house even my own room sometimes. (She wore a certain brand of perfume)

The scent of any perfume from our dead could definitely mean something but as for the smell of roses...... I will have to agree to those who said it's just a folklore or a legend.

this is somewhat related, i suppose:

i had a lady staying over a month or so ago at my place.  she awoke early in the morning to use the bathroom. as she got up from bed i could smell incense. i didn't say anything at first, but when she returned to bed, i asked her if she could smell something. she replied that it smelled like i had been burning incense. shortly thereafter, the smell dissipated.  i was strange because it lasted for 10 minutes or so, and we both smelled/experienced it.  otherwise i would chalk it up to a dreamlike hallucenation.

One of my family members recently died, and whenever I walked at night thinking of them, I'd smell roses.. Once in my house, while i was sitting with my sister and mother, we all recalled smelling the same thing.

Haha, a 2 year necro to give 5 words.

But this is something that I actually have going on currently. I'll be meditating, or trying to fall asleep, and will smell a distinct powerful flower smell (I don't know if it's rose or carnation; I know nothing about flowers). It will last maybe 10 seconds or so, then go away.

There are some flowers around that area of my house that could sift through my open window, but I never smell any of them usually, and this smell is rare, and goes away so quickly. I've gone outside my house, smelling all of the little flowers I can find like a nut, trying to find that smell, but nothing quite fits.

It is very interesting to me.

I haven't experienced that myself but friends of mine smell burning candles whenever a family member dies, and no, they do not burn candles and their house. When they smell this they immediately know that someone has passed and within minutes the phone goes to inform them of the death. I know it seems wierd but this has happened on numerous occasions over the years

I've smelled things and people who were not in the room but I have never heard of the rose thing. I suppose anything is possible but I sense there is more to this than just an urban legend.
