I too am a seventh son (no sisters) and I happened to be born on a Friday the 13th in March (oh those soo many years ago).  I have one son (stopped having kids after him....). I have no special healing powers although sometimes I have the distinct impression of feeling what other people feel (emotions not physical pain or pleasure).  Also I distinctly remember reading about a seventh son in the bible and he was an evil one..., but his seventh son (yes, the 7th son of a 7th son) was blessed by God to be a healer of men...  Anyway for what its worth....

My mother grew up in upper Michigan in the 1950's in a very small town. We used to vacation there in the 80's.I remember that we used to visit the cemetary and one grave stood out from all the others. This person was buried above ground. Asking Mom about it she said that it was the grave of Dr. Bullins. He was a 7th son and had healed my sister's very large planters wart with a salve that he made. This salve was sold in the few stores that were there in that town.It was a common household staple that everyone seemed to have.
When my grandfather passed I recived a tin of the stuff. Unfortunatle it had been in a fire and the label was too scorched to read. The contents smelled of pine tar and something else.
Anyway,I was always facinated by the story of Dr Bullins but hardly no info can be found on him. But he did have a thriving practice at one point in that town's history.
The town is Wakefeild Mich. in case anyone was going to ask.

Well, in a Terry Pratchett book the 8th son of the 8th son of a wizard is a sorcerer. I don't think that is much help to you though...

Shame all these 7th sons of 7th sons don't use their wisdom to advocate birth control.

I'm new to this website...but I've been looking for information on this topic.  My Grandfather was said to be a 7th son of a 7th son.  He was known as a healer, often taking away children's toothaches.  My mother was a little nervous about his "powers", not really sure of whether it was evil or not.  She said his teeth were rotted, and suspected he "took on" other people's illnesses, etc. when he did his healing.  When he died, he was supposed to transfer this "healing power" to a woman.  There was some kind of mantra or something to be passed on.  Since he passed when I was little, I don't really remember him, and have always been curious about this topic.  Anyone have any info??

My mother has told me story about a seventh daughter of a seventh son. She grew up in Estonia and her cousin was strange and often very ill. She says the most memorable thing about her was her eyes which apparently were different colors but seemed to alternate. Exept she was only young and she doesn't trust her memory apparently  :) But anyway the kid got stranger going into adolescence and claimed to see all sorts of horrible things under the ground and would sit on her bed for days on end not wanting to touch the floor. Another strange thing about her was that any rat or other animal that went into a certain vicinity around her would die, writhing in pain. Ma says she was a sensitive girl and hated all the things happening to her and the animals around her so one day she hung herself from a tree, not touching the Earth even in death. She used freak out from touching random things aswell like a school pencil, some mattress etc. Ma still believes to this day she saw things that cursed her. I don't know if it has anything do with the fact that she was a seventh, seventh kid but it's a pretty interesting story.

I'm as puzzled as a newborn child... I'm as riddled as the tide. Should I stand amid the breakers?
Or shall I lie with death my bride?

As someone pointed out, the seventh son of a seventh son is supposed to have extraordinary healing powers, but they didn't mention that they are also supposedly torn between good and evil, the same powers that have blessed them also curse them. In different cultures the seventh son has different meanings. For example, some cultures believe that the seventh sons would be a werewolf and would often be abandoned, and it was also rumored in some cultures that the seventh son of a seventh son may be a vampire.
The healing powers of the seventh son is also a superstition held in France, the seventh son was called a Marcou and branded with a fleur-de-lis (though i've also heard debate of whether it was the fleur-de-lis or the rose, since traditionally the sixth son is branded with the fleur-de-lis, and the the seventh is branded with a rose, but i don't know much about all that.)
I'm not sure of the origins of this myth though, but I don't think the origin is known either. hope that helped.
