I was standing Boatswain's mate of the watch on the bridge in the wee hours of the black night, and we were sailing in the south Pacific in fairly calm waters.
I had just sent my runners (crew members who helped me) to check on the aft lookout and make sure they were awake, see if they were doing alright. The other runner went down to the engine room to make his rounds.
I was jotting some ink into the Bosuns log when I noticed that someone or something was standing right next to me,to my right. I wasn't afraid, but I could feel that this person was different, something erie, and I could only see him out of the corner of my right eye. I kept writing and also kept him in sight with my perifereal vision. I turned towards him to view him better and there was nothing there. Absolutely nothing. I will never forget that as long as I live. I noticed later that I had felt very good while this figure stood beside me,as If I was comforted in some erie way. Oh well, there's my "ghost story".
I later found out I was not the only person who had experiences like that on the ship,as there were other very strange things that happened.
