Pearly gates . . . . why?  Can someone get in without permission?
Streets of gold . . .. why?  Are there Ford agencies there?
Eternal peace . . . . how boring!

Definitely sounds like someone's daydream to me.

I suspect heaven is whatever would please you most, i.e. whatever your idea of eternal happiness is.

That could be it. But is it that as humans, our ideas of eternal happiness will not actually bring us happiness, simply because of our human nature to always want more? So Heaven has already been decided as to what it is, to satisfy us all.

sort of to say either like it or lump it

A certain sense of cruelty towards oneself and others is Christian; hatred of those who think differently; the will to persecute. Mortal hostility against the masters of the earth, against the 'noble', that is also Christian; hatred of mind, of pride, courage, freedom, libertinage of mind, is Christian; hatred of the senses, of joy in general, is Christian...
Friedrich Nietzsche

Man is certainly stark mad. He cannot even make a worm, and yet he will be making gods by the dozens.
Montaigne
