I'm sure that the worst serial killer of all time is someone completely unknown to us.  In fact, I wouldn't be surprised if he was active at this very moment.  I once read about a serial killer that had an IQ of around 85.  He managed to kill over a dozen people before they caught him.

Remember, we are all just acting out a grand old game here, where we agree to forget who we really are, that in the remembering, that we may find each other again, and know that we are One. That All of Life, is One.

I know it's late but that still made me laugh pretty hard.  I definitely wasn't expecting to see Big Red.

very interesting, however i believe it could have been police officers trying to get a wrap on some unresolved cases and taking advantage of a severely deranged man who obviously feeds on the attention he gets from staking claim to murders and the description of what happened to the poor victims...

great story though, one i hadn't heard of that's for sure! good find!!!! thumbsup.gif

Sorry if any of these have been mentioned already:

Behram, the 'Indian Thug'

It was established at the trial of Behram, the 'Indian Thug', that he had strangled at least 931 victims with his yellow and white cloth strip or 'ruhmal' in the Oudh district (now in Uttar Pradesh, India) between 1790 and 1840.

Elizabeth Bathori

Historically the most prolific serial murderer of the western world was Elizabeth Bathori (Hungary), who practised vampirism on girls and young women. Throughout the 15th century, she killed more than 600 virgins in order to drink their blood and bathe in it. When her murderous career was discovered, the countess was locked up in her castle from 1610 until her death in 1614.

Wow, your first two are very off.  Behram was a member of a gang who killed around 400 people in 40 years.  So, he killed no where near that many people himself.  The countess Bathory killed over 600 women, no one knows if they were virgins and the whole vampire thing was started as a rumor several hundred years after her death.

Although the term 'serial killer' might be a bit stretched by this person, Albert Pierrepoint killed 435 known people (according to the Prison Execution Books), and the number is thought to be 600+. Of course, this presumes 'worst' is by number of victims alone.

While people such as Elizabeth Bathory are presumed to have killed more, there is great doubt over the number of victims as no records exist.
