Hippopotomonstrosesquippedaliophobia - Fear of long words

How sick is the person who made that one up !

The last thing someone with a fear of long words is going to want is to have to tell people that they suffer from Hippopotomonstrosesquippedaliophobia.

Hmmm, it starts with "Hippopotomo" , and has "monstro" and "quipped" in it. I think someone made that up as a joke. It doesn't really seem too believable to be honest.  :-/

SaRuMaN,
I agree that it doesn't sound believable, but if you plug that name in google.com, it seems to be legitimate. As an example:

I think I may start to show symptoms of Hippopotomonstrosesquippedaliophobia if I look at these phobia words for much longer.  ;D

Does bogeyphobia lead to bogey fever?    ;D

[blue]How can anyone be frightened of chins for crikey's sake?

Personally I have two fears: big insects and open water. I think the latter is due to seeing Jaws at an early age, like too early.

And big insects are just gross, man.
