I have always wondered why it is that when something good happens that is very unlikely it is called a miracle but when something bad happens after following just as unlikely a process it is not considered miraculous.

I mean if something "impossible" happens a christian should automatically assume it is a miracle. Whether that miracle makes the christian happier or not seems to be merely quibbling over semantics

When money ceases to be the tool by which men deal with one another, then men become the tools of men. Blood, whips and guns--or dollars. Take your choice--there is no other--and your time is running out."

Your immune system got better as you grew up. Good for you!

The world goes round for believers, agnostics and even non-believers.
People give several reasons for things they do not quite understand.
While some people question and attempt to look for the answers, some just close their minds and become blind religious believers.

Obvously, god has everything to do with one good thing that happens on earth. lo and behold it's a miracle! And he has nothing to do with the other vast majority that go wrong: famines, floods, earthquakes, accidents...you name them.

Religion is for those weak minded, who do not dare to explore realistic possibities -it's for those who blindly follow whatever is fed to them.

I wouldnt go that far to say religion is for the weak minded!!! but its your opinion so I guess I respect it

I have a strong mind...I dont follow a religious cult..or faith..I created my own....it has been bashed on here from people who are ignorant towards it and havent been creative enough to create their own

Hi there BM!

I guess everybody needs to believe something or the other. Belief in some form is essential in my opinion. It doesn't even matter what you believe in. But the smarter people believe in structured, proof backed-up reasoning while others stop and refuse to move from their comfort zones.

I warn you before hand that what I have written below can be a little disturbing...

The other day, I saw a headless little girl. I was in my office bus looking through the window when I saw this. The accident already happened, the girl was in her father's arms. I figured it was a girl by the dress she wore, because the head was missing. It was gory to say the least. The girl was a laborer's kid who lives in the nearby huts. She might have been about 2 years at most. The mother was crying hysterically, and people were still looking for the kid's head under the bus. The sight would surely churn anybody's internals.

I mean, why should a little girl die like that? If she had to die, then she could've died in a hospital, with some illness or something? A more respectable death probably? The kid was all that the poor labourer's family had. Can we even imagine what the kid's parents might have gone through. Why did she have to die like that? Such a horrible death. What sins did the toddler commit to justify her death?

I mean...god almighty, where are you?

Obviously, god doesn't have to do anything with this mad.gif And, to a blind believer even taking a few steps to the chair and watching Mickey Mouse on TV is a miracle. Hmph!

Things do not happen for a reason. We give reasons to most things to make sense to ourselves. One such reason is god and the different approaches to this kind of thinking is what we call religion.

crying.gif You saw this OMG...thats terrible Awful words cannot describe it...poor lil girl such a horrid way to die...only 2 yrs old....this is disturbing...I believe in God but I believe he should protect the lil children...I cannot dispute that....if anyone tries to defend God in a situation like this is a sad sad individual I am sorry you had to wittness that too...it must have choked you up....those poor parents...she is all they have and now she is gone....If the little girls head was still attached..there might have been a chance...but then again she must have been hit really hard

Her parents will keep blaming themselves...I know I would.............If it happened to me I would die..just die..I couldnt or wouldnt want to live anymore ...the only lil thing I have is my lil girl...I love her more than life itself..so yea I would die...I would loose the will to live after that.....

Imaggine being that father holding her in his arms crying.gif omgosh....her daeth was quick and painless but man thats not the point....no one should go out like that so so young...gee God....I am sure those parents are thinking...good lord WHY...Why our lil baby?? why couldnt she have gotten the chance to experience life?? WHY??

Those are things I couldnt begin to understand

I made a thread saying if anything where to happen to my lil girl....would I loose faith....I dunno I probably would.....cuz all I have is her and my faith...if that is taken from me..one goes so may the other sad.gif

This is why I believe in reincarnation...I hope to God..this lil girl is reincarnated to the same parents again...I hope so I made a prayer thread in my own forums for these people

I'm sorry if that shaked you up BM. It surely did that to me when I saw it. I just couldn't get that sight out of my head for a while. Actually, I didn't explain the details of the accident to you. I didn't want to, it was so horrific. I asked again and again and again, Why, oh why? I could find no justifiable reason why the so-called "god" should do this. None at all.

At least he should've given her a decent death I thought. Only later did I realize that I was only trying to find reasons to comfort myself, one way or the other, and get over that feeling and I realized that we all do this voluntarily or involuntarily.

While blind faith and belief might help you cope with this loss better psychologically, it will not bring the dead girl back to life or even stopped this incident in the first place.

I used to be agnostic at one point in time, but several, several incidents and things made me think and question the basic foundations of our belief systems. And when I questioned myself, I realized.

Thanks for making a prayer thread for these people BM. Though I do not believe in prayer, I truly appreciate your intention.

Meh, perhaps you believe there is no God because it's easier for you. You saw something so horrific it is probably just easier to believe that there is no God than to believe that God is unfair. It's not right to say that someone else is a dolt or has "inferior intellect" or whatnot because they believe in God. You have just as much proof that there is no God as they do that there is one. You're just as blind as everyone else, and for you believing that there is no God is more comforting than believing that there is one. I myself don't believe in God, but... I can't deny that he may exist.

At what point did he or anyone say....they had PROOF??? hmm.gif

You obviously havent thought any of this through and tried to imagine what it would be like to be one of those parents have you??? I take it you are not a parent yourself??

Well... I'm going to quote BC a little, I don't know how to work the thing good, so I'll just use quotes.
"I used to be agnostic at one point in time, but several, several incidents and things made me think and question the basic foundations of our belief systems. And when I questioned myself, I realized."
"Religion is for those weak minded, who do not dare to explore realistic possibities -it's for those who blindly follow whatever is fed to them."
"But the smarter people believe in structured, proof backed-up reasoning while others stop and refuse to move from their comfort zones."

Basically BM, I want BC to get off his high horse and stop berating people who believe in organized religion. And... a nice comment about the parents, but it had nothing at all to do with my post.

He has his reasons...I dont agree with him saying what he said..you saw that in one of my previous posts....but I also said I respect him for it.....

When he wrote that story about the lil girl...It was sad..heartbreaking

You have to try and imagine what it would be like to be in the shoes of one of those parents.....thats what I did and I thought to myself...If that happened to me..I would just want to die..I would most likely drop my faith too...cuz without my lil one...there is no faith anymore

You respect him for mocking other's beliefs? What? I'm not saying it's wrong for him to be an athiest, he can believe whatever he wants. He should never look down on others for believing what they do.

I agree, and Organized religion looking down upon athiests is just as wrong. I think we probably just misunderstood eachother. I also respect him for believing that there is no God, but he shouldn't try'n put down organized religion.

[edit: what you said was "I dont agree with him saying what he said..you saw that in one of my previous posts....but I also said I respect him for it." I thought you were talking about him putting down organized religion (I don't agree with him saying...), then you later say that you respect him for it, I wasn't trying to twist your words, I honestly thought that's what you wrote]

[edit2: "what I class as mocking?" what's that supposed to mean, you don't think he is going out of his way to make people who believe in organized religion look stupid?]
