Saru Posted October 6, 2006 #1 Share Posted October 6, 2006 Chess Tournament Season 3 Introduction Welcome to the third chess tournament event on Unexplained Mysteries, an organised series of chess matches that all our members are very welcome to participate in. There are a few changes this time around over previous seasons. Participants will no longer have to play two games against every single other participant, a process which given the number of people taking part in previous tournaments has proven inpractical. This time around we are opting for a group based elimination system, participants will be grouped randomly and will play each of the other players in those groups both as black and as white. Winners of each group will then move on to play the winners of the other groups and so on. The number of players in each group will be based on how many people are taking part. Once again we'll be using the popular on-line chess site http://www.redhotpawn.com for the matches. The site uses an excellent turn based system which means the matches do not have to be played live, plus several games can be going at the same time. Timeouts will be set to 1 day with a 7 day timebank. As always full tournament scores will be available at all times on the forum. The first thing we need is to find out how many people would like to take part. If you can play chess and would like to take part in our tournament this season, please head over to This Thread and make a post to register your interest. If you have a RedHotPawn.com username that is different from your forum username please also include that so we can identify you on the chess site. Also if you have any questions at all about the tournament or what it involves please post them below. Thanks.
JeremiahGateFan Posted January 3, 2007 #2 Share Posted January 3, 2007 How do you join the tounament? Does it use Algebraic or English notation? How does it work?
Saru Posted January 3, 2007 Author #3 Share Posted January 3, 2007 Sorry, the tournament has been running for several months now and is no longer open to new participants. We play the games on the correspondance chess site linked in my post above, no chess notation required. We will probably be holding more tournaments in the future however, if you are still interested in taking part when the next one starts you'd be very welcome to join.
