Malaysian envoy says U.S.-based Muslim diplomats should dispel misperceptions of Islam

Malaysia Diplomats from Muslim nations who are based in the United States should create a grouping to help correct misperceptions about Islam and curb anti-Muslim sentiment, Malaysia's ambassador said.

"It would be a good forum for Muslim countries to interact with the United States on issues that affect the Muslim community," the national Bernama news agency quoted Rajmah Hussain, Malaysia's ambassador to the United States, as saying.

Rajmah, speaking at a diplomatic dinner in Washington on Thursday, said Malaysia will present a proposal to form a U.S.-based grouping comprised of representatives of members of the Organization of the Islamic Conference, the world's biggest Muslim political bloc.

Malaysia, which currently chairs the 57-member OIC, believes the grouping is needed in Washington to help dispel misperceptions about Islam and deter hostility toward Muslims, Rajmah said.

"As a Muslim, I feel Islam is unfairly targeted," Rajmah was quoted as saying.

Rajmah was speaking to ambassadors from Saudi Arabia, Pakistan, Qatar, Azerbaijan and Senegal, as well as Eric John, the U.S. deputy assistant secretary of state for East Asia, and Archbishop Pietro Sambi, the Vatican nuncio to the United States, Bernama said. The Associated Press

So what do you think?
Do you think any of them will be able to present an image of a modern tolerant Islam that does not insist on sharia within parts of governmental law?

So... They're telling Americans to ignore the Koran's teachings and just open our arms in joy? rolleyes.gif

“Within four years, I had 223 points, which means 223 kills,” Anani recalled. “And two-thirds of them by daggers. I was trained in what we call body combat.”

--

“The assurance for salvation in Islam is via martyrdom,” he said. “That’s the whole message. The Koran clearly stated it: ‘Do not think that the ones who die in the cause of Allah and martyrdom are dead, but are with Allah receiving their blessings.’ This is why my cousin went to his suicide mission and died. And my aunt Fatima, in the streets of Bethlehem, was passing out candy … because her son was now a martyr.”

-Zachariah Anani, Ex-Terrorist

Yes, it's true. Because what you have brought up on teachings is exactly what is obstructed from the Koran itself, where it teaches you to hate and kill the others who are not Muslims.

What's interesting about him is he was a devoted fighter for Islam with hundreds of kills. His family is also made up of a line of holy men that preach at the holy sites. He was expected to do the same thing when he finally woke up one day and saw it was wrong. He coverted to become a Christian and now because of that and his speaking out against Muslims he's had multible assassination attempts on his life to silence him because he was so far into it.

Malaysia seems to be a nice Islamic country with a good level of tolerance although I could be mistaken. Thats why I think this forum is a good idea, we need to give out a realistic image of Islam, which is mostly not tolerant and not modern with the exception of few countries.

But not all Islamic countries follow the Quran, for example myself; I am a Muslim, but I didnt take part in the holy month (Ramadam), I eat pork meat, I drink alcohol, I have never been to a Mosque before but I have seen two from outside and I never even seen the Quran before. What the Western people need to understand is that there are different types of Muslims based on the country. For example during the Soviet times we in Azerbaijan werent allowed to have any religion the same goes for Kazachstan, Uzbekistan and Turkmenistan and thats why today the ex-Soviet Republics are the most tolerant religieus countries around. Anyways I think this forum is a excellent idea but I just hope the other Muslim countries can learn a thing or two about tolerance from us.

tolerant Islam

Can someone explain this term please? tolerant of whom/what?
"He hath need of his wits who wanders wide,
aught simple will serve at home;
but a gazing-stock is the fool who sits
mid the wise, and nothing knows."

Shaftsburry is right, Baku.

Tolerant of whom? Your post does not reflect toleranc of any kind but it is merely a butt kissing way to be accepted. Why are you lowering yourself with your post?

I see it this way. The west is not judging us on do we eat pork or not or do we take part in islamic holidays like they do take part in Chrismas celebrations or not.

What the West is asking the muslim comunity is to stand up against the terrorists in our misdst. And I give them right for that. We, the moderate moslems, should fight the war against terrorism in Islam, not Americans, Canadians or others.

But as long as we are silent, they have to do the job for us and we should not complain.

Tolerance towards other religions, its widely known that Islam doesnt tolerate other religions and thats my main concern. There is alot of hate within Islam and I think thats one of the reasons why some go suicidal. You cant just fight terrorism with bullets, its a movement that will not end, we need to go after the main source of terrorism and I think thats the lack of tolerance towards other religions.
