I LOVE all animals.....

but I never owed a cat...I tend to steer in the direction of DOG's...
Growing up we always had a family dog, "MY" first dog was when I got married she was a lab/ mix medium size
her name was "Kizzy" I loved that dog with all my heart....my husband was always very jealous...
I am proud to say she lived 12 years..I walked her almost everynight of her life..except in the winter.
I still miss her, I have her ashes on my bed in a beautiful cedar box...
Now I have "Natasha" siberian/wolf & "Lucas Lee" doberman, not only are they "Best Friends" , they give me "Unconditional Love" they highlight my day , they are my main reason for living....
Cat's are so independant
I really like being able to take my dogs with me in the car, and walking them..

I love both dogs and cats.I had two dogs one was really dumb i think he had some kind of mental problem! But he was very lovable,we had nine cats at that time and he thought he was their momma, always trying to lick them clean and carry them in his mouth! even the full grown cats and they would get so annoyed at him, actually it was kinda funny to watch though

But the other dog i got a few years later was a tan lab/sheppard mix and she was so smart, I really didn,t need to train her at all! From the time she was a pup she wouldn,t go to the bathroom in the house, she would hold it till she was let out. One day i had been gone a little longer than expected and when i got home and put the key in the door i could hear her whining, as soon as the door opened she flew past me into the yard squatted and started peeing the look of reliefe on her face was priceless! And she was only five months old at the time, also when she was in the car and i would leave her there a few minutes to go into the store she,d clime up front but as soon as i started walking back to the car all i would have to do is point my finger to the back seat and she,d jump in the back. She never jumped up on people and as she got older she would even make sure my friends toddler wouldn,t get to close to the road when she was in the front yard,no one taught her to do this she just did it on her own! She was a great dog and probably would have made an excelent service dog! I still miss her very much!
But mostly i,ve had cats lots of them over my life time and i,ve loved them all sooo much of course a few stand out more than others and i could tell you a lot of storys, but then this post would go on and on forever! However i,ve boiled down my theory about cats andogs to this...Dogs are like toddlers they need a lot of attention, you can,t leave them alone to long or they will get into something and it breaks their hearts, they get lonly very quick and like a toddler they are always tugging at you to show you something or because they want to play and they alway will do whatever pleases you! They love when your proud of them! Cats are like teenagers they demand to be fed what and when they want, and if you want their attention they will ignore you till they want something and then their all sucky sucky! And when you let them out they decide when they will come home !It,s like don,t wait up mom i,ll be gone till i get hungry or tired and no amount of calling will bring them back till their darn well good and ready! There are so many more ways you can compare dogs to little children and cats to teenagers, but i love them both!

They'll make sure you know it, too.
I am just not with the idea of having a dog, at the moment. A dog is a commitment, almost on the same level as a child. To take care of it properly, you have to make sure that you studied about all breeds and that the one you chose is compatible with your household. You have to want it right up next to you all the time, because that's where they always are. You have to understand about disciplining it and having it trained. The dog needs to be disciplined. I learned that watching The Dog Whisperer

. It's a relationship that should be invested in emotionally, as well as time-wise. Dogs are high-maintenance is what I'm trying to say.
I have a feeling there might be a dog in my future, when I am a little more settled down and able to spend the time neccesary. I think if it were the right dog for me and my kids, and I were able to invest in it, everyone involved (including the dog) would be very happy with it.
I find myself sometimes annoyed with my kids' Nana's dog, but honestly most of the reasons for that have to do with it not being trained or disciplined at all. He begs at the table, which absolutely horrifies me beyond words, and he handles his business on the floor

. But that is his owner's fault, I know.
My cats go out and do their own thing. When they come and cuddle up with me it's a treat and I appreciate it. Dogs are up in your grill all the time. I need my me-time, and right now I can't quite deal with a dog following me around everywhere, and me tripping on it every time I turn around.
My cats rock! I admire their outright disdain for being awake. I couldn't get away with that.

LMAO...sounds like my house. Some night's I feel like I get maybe 1/8 of the bed. My husband is very large; plus the 2 - 100lbs+ labradors; sometimes one of the kids... Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh. I usually end of with either a foot or a paw in my face. LMAO. Oh well.

I have my demon kitty 'Munky', she's a total handful but I love her. She's always there all happy when I get home to make me smile.
But we also just got a full blood boxer puppy that my daughter named Annabell Lee, she's totally cool, all muscle and sweetness.
Seeing the two of them together is freakin hilarious because the puppy is all playful and munky acts like she'll get dirty if they touch.
Wolfwoman, with a name like yours it's obvious that you'd have a bias toward the canine, although I know you'd love cats if you had any.

I love them both, but have a closer bond to cats...odd for a guy, I know....
Every cat i have every owned has ben the most loving creature; I have never owned a cat that is aloof like some seem to be.
About 6 years ago my wife and I were in Las Vegas. We stopped by a Petsmart to use the restroom on our way out of town and as we were walking in there was a young girl who was crying and holding a box in front of her. She told us that she had taken her trash out to her apartment dumpster and hear meowing. She found 4 kittens in a plastic bag that someone had thrown in the trash. She was able to get the bag out, but only 3 of the kittens were alive.
The kittens were about a week old; eyes still closed...
So my wife and I decide to take two of the kittens and raise them; Scruff and Mittens:
Click to view attachmentWe had to bottle feed them every two hours for several weeks...The best part was that we were on vacation and staying at the Hilton Casino for 3 more days. We decided to sneak the kittens into the hotel(we thought that we were going to be tossed out if we were found to have kittens with us so we went into Mission Impossible mode to try and sneak them in...) and take care of them there for the rest of the time. My wife had a pair of coverals on that had a pocket in the front on her chest. Both kittens fit into the pocket perfectly so we put them in there and walked into the casino. The noise of the gamgling worked to our advantage and we made it to the elevators no problem. We were in the elevator waiting for the doors to close and last second a cleaning crew from the hotel came into our elevator. We were going up to the tenth floor I think. About 3 floors up the kittens decided to start mewing...oy... I looked over at the employees and they were looking around trying to figure out what the heck was going on. We were the only other people so we decided to come clean and my wife pulled them out of her pocket and tried to tell them about them being abandoned in a dumpster.
The staff was pretty understanding and told us to just put up the "Do not disturb" sign to keep the other staff out. In stead of having a wild time in Vegas my wife and I sat in our room waking up every two hours to bottle feed the kittens and clean up after them...
It was worth it. The kittens bonded to us and they still have to be on our laps if we are at home and follow us around the house as we go from room to room. The grey one(scruffy) took to jumping up on my shoulder and getting a ride as I walk to my office...
They are incredible cats.

Ooh boy...
I recently recovered from a temporary ownership of a 4-year-old Chihuahua mix that had never been trained to do
anything in its life.
The dog refused to relieve itself outside, and even when we bought it pee pads, it always went on the carpet in the house and never on the pads.
It would go into the trash, eat stuff from it, and drag stuff out all over the house.
We called a pet trainer and he said the only chance there was to train such a dog at this age was to devote all of our time to doing so.
The dog was then, of course, returned. Humane Society didn't even offer to refund our money (but mom was going to leave it as a donation if they did offer, anyway.)
My appreciation grew for the often annoying, yet tidy and sweet Cat that we'd had for years.
Cats.

When I get up in the middle of the night she hides around the corner then jumps out and touches my leg then runs off leaping in the air like aha I got ya. Scares the baageebees out of me everytime, but I get her back every once in a while.

I sort of agree with Heather. I've had dogs; I've loved my dogs (especially my collie, Heidi, and my cocker spaniel, Wendy. They were truly lovely dogs--such sweet personalities. I still miss them.) However, the last two dogs we had were an absolute horror. They destroyed everything and were dumb as rocks. One dog, Roger, actually had a "Vacancy" sign flashing in his eyes. Both dogs were given back to the orginal owners before my husband could do them bodily harm.
We have two cats, now. My husband hates dogs, anyway. He's a cat lover. Both were kittens when they found us and adopted us. Crystal was a scraggly, almost dead kitten that we took to the vet immediately after finding her on our front porch. The vet fixed her up. He said, "You know, I know it doesn't look like it now, but this is going to be a beautiful cat." She is a long-haired calico and she's IS gorgeous. Unfortunately, she has arthritis in her hips and can't jump like she used to. She is the sweetest thing.
Then Lily found my 8 year old son one day while he was playing in the field behind us. She just ran to him (she was just a little thing) and jumped up on him and began kissing him all over his head. Of course we had to bring her inside. He's 15 now, and she still kisses his head. (He has a brush cut--I wonder if she thinks he's her mommy?)
We love our cats. My sons ADORE the cats, even still after so many years. They play with them every day. I like their attitude--and they are a lot easier to take care of than dogs.

It's not that dogs are too much for me to handle, but cats are easier and I don't have much time to have a dog, a cat is like, you just leave the backdoor open, let it wander around, poor some food for it, and pet it from time to time.

We had a cat when I was young, she was raised in a school as a kitten and came to live with us when the school realised it wasn't right to keep a cat. She was the most gentle and tolerant cat ever. She taught me and my brother to respect and love animals, to treat them gently and play nicely. She was a bit like a dog in that she used to follow us around and came to you when you whistled her! My dad was so upset when she died that he swore he would never have another pet.
However, I always craved a dog as a child. But my Mom was not a dog person (so she says) and we were never allowed. Now I have my own home, my fiancee and I decided we would like a dog. After researching breeds we decided on the English Bull Terrier and Gryff came to live with us last November 5th.
He is the most irritating, intense and infuriating little monster ever, but he is also funny, affectionate and loveable. He's chewed my dining room up and wrecked my garden. But, as his breeder said, "He's ruined your house and stolen your heart". My Mom (I repeat, NOT a dog person) loves him. She asks after him before she asks how I am, she plays with him, walks him when I can't and looked after him every day when he was a puppy. I think he stole her heart too. My dad loves him and will play with him for hours in the garden.
So, to answer the question. I love both, but currently my heart belongs to a Bull Terrier. (and a stinky, grumpy old rat named Henson)
