Happy Birthday Stephen King!!!!!!! I'm a little late (yesterday) but anyway.... I love Stephen King. I just finished " Lisey's story" Awesome. What an awesome author. What do you think?
EmpressStarXVII
I have that book but haven't read it yet. He's one of my favourite authors wub.gif

Never read his books but most of his movies i think speak for themselves, a genius imo.
I did read extracts from short bio on him somewhere, how he started from very poor and humble beginnings to become one of the greatest of all time, yet never swaying from his roots(family values etc)that in itself is an awesome achievement.

ThankPunt
Needful Things makes for a 'not too shabby' NT for those who don't fancy organized religion.

I read a book of his a while back...It was called something like 'On Writing'...it was very good.
He gave writing 'lessons' throughout the book and he also told the story of his own life.

He did come from humble beginnings and like all aspiring writers had his fair share of rejections.
Then he made his breakthrough with 'Carrie'.

After becoming very successful he had a terrible accident. He used to walk everyday for relaxation
and inspiration...then one day he was mowed down by a car as he walked. He was seriously injured.
He described the people and their big dogs in the car that hit him and likened them to characters
that he could have made up himself.

His recovery was slow and painful. But he managed to get back to his writing.

Happy Belated Birthday, Stephen King!!!!

Actually SK is the only author that I have read and then watched the movies without being disappointed. I read The Body in grade 5, which Stand By Me is based on. The Shawshank Redemption was awesome, both as a movie and in the book. And hardly anything was changed. The Green Mile, it stuck so close to his mini novellas, I cried in the last novella, and so I knew I was going to bawl when I watched the movie. I respect him so much for keeping the movies so close to the novels. That is the whole idea, the novel is an awesome story, so why change it when it comes to making the movie? (Unlike *cough-Dean Koontz-cough*)

Shawshank and Green mile are probably my favorites. yes.gif I was about 14 when I read my first Stephen King book. Pet cemetery. I hated it. The thing with the little boy just made me sick. I swore I would never read another one of his books. Then when I was about 22,23 my sister convinced me to read Needful things. Ive been hooked ever since. ( I still hate pet cemetery though)

I love Dean Koontz. Only seen one movie though. Phantoms, and I loved it. What other movies does he have?
chemical-licker
i saw the film 1408 based on his writing, very good film

Dean Koontz had one of my favorites made into a movie and it was absolute crap! Watchers sucked, two more were then made which I haven't even bothered with. I read Phantoms before I saw teh movie, which I was disappointed in. As well as Hideaway, UGH! He has these best sellers and then changes teh stories when it comes time to make the movies. They were best sellers for a reason, don't touch!!! My absolute favorite by him was Lightning and if they ever make that into a movie, they had better not screw it up!!

As to Stephen King, I am unpatiently waiting for The Talisman to be made into a movie. That is my favorite by him (with Peter Straub). Supposedly it is in production, but....we will ahve to wait and see, it has been in production for liek three years now.

I love his movies too. Maximum Overdrive laugh.gif. That was a dumb movie but I loved it for some reason lol. The Langoliers, The Stand. Storm of the Century, Delores Clairborne....all classics.

Personally, I wish Geralds Game would be made into a movie grin2.gif grin2.gif grin2.gif. Psychological horror is the best.

I know. We should write Stephen King and tell him lol. Even though the main character's setting is handcuffed to the bed the entire time, she does have a lot of flash backs. Not to mention I'd Looooove to see the Space Cowboy on film. I pictured it so clearly in my head lol. Did you read Delores Clarborne? If so, did you notice the connection Delores, Jessie, and the Eclipse had? I thought it was a genius move by King that only his longtime readers would get.

Well "HAPPY BIRTHDAY!" S.K. He sure has kept many noses firmly planted in many of his books! And a lot of great movies which never took away the pleasure of his books! A great talent for sure! yes.gif thumbsup.gif

Yes, I read Delores first, awesome story and then read Gerald's Game. Only he would think to do that! I think he has a great sense of humour.

Lots of his stories connect. So many of them take place in and around Castle Rock. At least three (that I can remember right now) have the same Sheriff and deputy. Lisey' story, Cujo, and Needfull things. There's lots of connections between his books. He is brilliant. yes.gif
Purplos
I always loved how his books interconnect - can't forget Randall Flagg!!

The Bachman Books was the first 'real' book I bought myself (knowing it was a Stephen King) at age 12. I'm still hooked. For pure entertainment value, there is nothing better.

Although...... I just finished "Cell" and thought it was rather.... disappointing.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY STEPHEN KING!!!

Okay, I'm with y'all on Gerald's Game being made into a movie. I'm a die hard fan. I also just read Lisey's Story a few months ago. I have some fun questions for my fellow fans.......

1) What name did he write the story, "The Long Walk" under? (Hint: It's also the name on the front of the factory in the movie, Night Shift.)

2) The movie "Shawshank Redemption" is based on a story that is titled what?

3) The movie "Maximum Overdrive" is based on a story that is titled what?

Now here's a real question that I want to ask y'all. Doesn't it seem like SK really must travel to another dimension seeing as how it is a constantly recurring theme in many of his stories?

I have to say that I am so impressed with your knowledge of SK! I did get the Eclipse connection as well. I love how he brings other tidbits of stories together. Empress, did you read Insomnia?? If so, did you notice the "small shoe" connection in the pile of rubbish?? I'm sure you'll be able to answer my little trivia questions I posted....... thumbsup.gif

1. I'm thinking Richard Bachman.

2. "Rita Hayworth and the Shawshank redemption"

And the other answer is "Trucks".

I love King.

Arrrrrg! I haven't read Insomnia yet, but I have the book lying around here somewhere. The other books of his I got (recently) that I haven't read are The Green Mile, and Rose Madder. Oh, and Lesley's Story as well.

I have read a lot of his books, but mainly the non horror books, like The Dark Tower series. cool.gif
