We have all had them i think! One or more teachers who were horrible and treated you or someone in the class horribly and probably did more to damage you or others than to educate! Also we have if we were very lucky a teacher who was the greatest and opened our eyes to the thrill of discovery and learning with respect to his/ her students! I,ll start with one teacher out of two that were the worst!
Miss Elliot, she taught grade 1 and she must have been in her early 60,s and that was 43 years ago, so she,s probably dead now! Anyway she was a cranky old wench that all the little kids were scared of! And even our mothers complained about her, but i think the school board figured she,d be retiring in a couple years and didn,t want to fire her and leave her without a pension! Well one day there was a little girl, we were only 5 and 6 yrs old and she was screaming at this little girl because she was dressed poorly and her hair was messy! The little girl was so scared she peed herself! Miss Elliot made this little girl take her went undies off in front of the whole class and saw that they also were torn and full of holes, obviously this child lived in a poor household or with neglectfull parents! But Miss Elliot made her face the class and hold her wet underwear and oink like a pig! Then Miss Elliot told each of us to laugh at her, some of us felt compassion and didn,t want to laugh but she threatened if we didn,t laugh at little piggy she would bring us up to face the class and be laughed at! So we obeyed and laughed! But i never saw that little girl smile again for the rest of the year and if any of us were nice to her during that year Miss Elliot would find a way to torment us too!
Now for the best teacher though for the life of me i can,t remember her name! Odd because she was my favorite teacher ever! It was my fourth school in 3 months and i was in grade 8. I had always felt dumb because of a few learning disabilities that they back then just termed lazy! Nothing serious in my case, it just takes me longer to get things, but when i do i,m excited and do fairly well at them! I guess she realised this and took extra time with me as well as with a few others! Now the school had rules about certain books that were required reading, but i just couldn,t get past page one and several other kids felt the same, it was soooo boring! So one day she said fine give those books and she gathered them and put them on a shelf Then she said i want you all to find one book that you will all agree to read so we can discuss it later togeather. We all talked for awhile and agreed on the book"The Outsiders" We loved it and every kid read it from cover to cover and after we had great discussions on the book, writer and characters! She really turned a lot of us who never opened a book before onto reading! And once when we were supposed to do a report on something boring again she came up with the idea that instead of fighting us she let us do a report on our favorite rock band or a rock concert we had been to! It and she was a hit with us and we worked so hard to get it right! Well the school board got wind of this and fired her, so all us kids staged a sit out on school grounds and refused to come back to any class till she was rehired! And most of us had our parents consent and blessings to stick up for what we believed was an injustice! In 2 days she was back to the cheers of all of us! She was in tears of grattitude as she was a single mom raising two teenage boys on a crappy salary that she desperatly needed! Her class was one i never skipped and i learned so much about the joys of learning and recieved my first and only "A" on my report card! But then the district got too many kids and they built a new school and i happened to live in an area that said i had to go to the new school! Bummer, so back to boring and crappy! So i unfortunatly quit school and because i never finished the year out they would only credit me with a grade 7 education officially! But i,ll never be able to thank her enough for turning me on to books and realising i wasn,t stupid or lazy!
So anyone else have any Great teacher- Horrible teacher stories?

Out of the four years I went to school, I think my second-grade teacher was the most annoying. We were in Arizona at the time, and once I was talking about how I was going to move back to San Angelo, TX. Teacher "corrected" me continuously saying I must mean San Antonio or Los Angeles.
She didn't believe that the city I'm living in right now even existed! D; Some teacher she was...

But it probably doesn't compare to anything already posted here.

Worse Teachers:

James. He was strict! He followed everything by the book. Though he made a few jokes. He was still harsh. But he got fired at my school. For doing something he shouldn't have. tongue.gif I had him as a teacher from the time I was enrolled there until he got fired. Which was like 11th grade?

Susan: Omg. Though he was a good teacher. She was a bit harsh. Susan will yell at us. While she was away from the school & Gloria took her spot. She locked the papers we where suppose to do in the drawer. Later, she yelled at Gloria. But it was her fault for locking the drawer. She found another job.

PE Teacher: (I forgot his name.) He was paid mroe than Mark. He did nothing. He was just a pain in the butt. -.-

Best Teachers:

Gloria: She was laid back. She didn't do much though. She was easy on us students. But she was hard on us when it came to like homework & tests.

Larry: OMG! Best science/math teacher ever. He would let us eat & drink in his classroom. Plus we where allowed to debat. Also if he didn't feel like teaching, we where given "free periods." And let us go outside when the weather was nice enough. tongue.gif

Marget: Best homeroom teacher on the face of the planet! She would let us play music in the room. And was kinda like Gloria.

The best teacher I ever had was when I was about 6 years old. Everybody loved her and she had a really good knack with kids, she truly loved each and every one, very understanding and I really was sad to change schools.

The worst teacher I ever had was when I was 11 years old. He was a maths teacher and would often bellow at the kids, I was scared of him and would never put my hand up in class, nor would I ever admit to him that some maths he set us were giving me problems (I used to think he would shout at me if I said I didn't understand something laugh.gif ).

I have had a alot of sh#t teachers, but a few have been great...

hmm elemtry school...(notice how I still cant spell it)

Ms.Chan- She's still teaching, even at her age, a few of my younger cousins had her in grade 3 (just as I did) and we all agree shes one of the nicest and smartest teachers at the school, really got me into reading and whatnot, and nows that practically all Im know for acedmeic ( disgust.gif grin2.gif ) wise...In grade three on the first reading comp test we took I had Grade 8 vocab, and i think it was grade 7 comp the first time around, by late grade four it was at 12.9+ vocab and 11.5-12.9+ vocab....I still read often, but I really thank her for pushing me to do it..

Mr...ugh i forgot his name, but he was the funnest grade 5 teacher at my elemtary school..we would play soccer games last block of the day...every teusday and thursday he made us run laps and do pushups and stuff..even though we hated it then I thank him for that..he was a great soccer player...he would sometimes bring his daughter into class..or we would go to one of his friends restuarants (Milestones) or the place he waitered at (the Keg)...great times

Also had some great teachers in middle and highschool (where I currently am)..but my head hurts...im gonna go take a nap and then finsih this goddam english homework...can't believe I left it off till today angry.gif

One of the best AND worst teachers I had was the same guy. He was my grade9 and grade12 English teacher, Mr. Kajganich. He was the proverbial pompus, pretentious, over the top teachers, think Mr. Hand from Fast Times at Ridgemont High + the "cool" guy who gives out a piece of paper and says "write". We did that, btw. Basically, if you didn't understand Kafka by the time you learned to walk and chew bubble gum, you were NOTHING. He did intimidate a lot of the students, they figure him to be mean and strict. But I thought he was a little full of himself, but I enjoyed his class. We didn't follow the same curriculum as the other English classes did, but I always felt that we learned more this way. Everyone else was reading Anne Frank, we were writing portfolios of short stories, reading a book of our own, doing reports on that. I guess the one thing I didn't like was the poetry element. I HATED poetry. I can only read and re-read The Highwayman so many times.

Mr. Kajganich passed away a few years ago. I felt quite sad about it. I really think the school lost a most influential, erudite, warm person.

I've had my share of both kinds, but I think I have to say my favorite teacher was my 5th grade teacher Mrs. Harper. She made learning fun, and really helped me to understand math in a way I hadn't before. I had always loved to read, but something about the way she read a story would entrance you. I attribute my passion for reading to her, She also taught me that curiosity is a good thing , and that the only stupid question is one that goes unasked.

She sounds like an excelent teacher! And she,s so right about what she said about questions, thats the way we learn what we don,t know! Makes great sense! yes.gif

the worst and the best teacher came from one class - history.

the first half of the year I couldn't remember a thing and failed. that teacher left and was replaced. this new teacher took 30 minutes during lunch with me 3 times a week and ( I guess she made them) showed me like flash cards , pictorial history if you will. ( this was before the history channel) and I got an A. ( which averaged to a C with the first semester)

I think like subjects like history should be more visual. even math. I know myself I learn quicker 'seeing' in than reading it. Just like auto mechanics. How many find seeing and doing it is easier than just reading about it ? when I was studying auto tech we also straight applied engineers as well. The books they knew , but applying it ? they failed.

I think if the education system could distinguish between the two types it may lead to better students. but of course that would cost more and some persons in this country would rather we put more money for war and defense than our kids.

the best teachers in collage I had were both tough. they rarely praised. My girlfriend asked one of them if I was a good painter. the reply ? in 10 years she will be. which actually was a complement ! ( from her) . I was ( not to be egotistic but honest) the head of my class. as a freshman I competed against senior painters. so 10 years in the scheme of life is a short time.

the other remarked "your not like the dead sea bass we have here. " which from him I was told ( again in my freshman year) that was a great complement. and he was intimidating. A sculptor. well know throughout the country. excellent artist. But I've seen him make students cry and drop his class. He'd take something you had been working on for weeks , cut it apart , tell you to start over or flat out say why are you bothering to be here? lol

Jeez, maybe I was a brown noser or something, but I had quite a few teachers that left an impression on me. I hate-HATED my grade 1 teacher. I was so scared of her! But then we had Miss Fairrel in grade 2, she had these huge glasses that were in style in those days and drove a little convertible. So was so nice and really encouraged us. Because of her my love of math and reading took off. In grade 5&6 we had the same teacher, Mrs. Shaw she was strict, but we respected and liked her even more for it. It was in her class that my interest in writing came about. Mr. Meredith, our principal was another strict influence, but a very kind and caring man. Once I got to highschool, I had Mr. Verhoeven for English. He was quite volitile, but I learned alot from him. And Mr. Patterson was the science teacher who really got us to push ourselves to do the best we could. Mrs. Zaiss was a motherly yet hip type of teacher who again encouraged us. Our principal, Mr. Schiavon was a great guy, most of the time, he had his quirks, but he kept the school together and gave a lot fo his time to the basketball team. Sadly he died this year.

I totally agree! I always had a hard time learning something by just reading it, but come and show me hands on and i,d get it! And teachers that put you down instead of giving a few pointers to get you started heading in the right direction are not helping you to grow, there stunting your growth by frustrating and intimidating you! I believe a teacher should see a students errors as an oppurtunity to guide you through to the better solution, not make you feel stupid! And those that ask you why your even there, must have forgotten it,s because your trying to learn and understand something you don,t know! If you already knew it, then it would be a good to ask why are you even here?! You would think that would be obvious to them, DUH!

My worst teacher was my grade 4 teacher, Mrs Smith, I moved to the school late in the year and was behind straight away cause the curriculum was different from my last school, never seen a multiplication table before I moved there. Then 2 weeks into being there I got chicken pox and end of year exams were on. So I had to sit outside the class room and sit them out there. I dont blame her for that, at least I got the chance to sit them. But she was just a mean old witch who enjoyed alienating and picking on 10 year olds. Turns out my mum had her in high school as a gym teacher some 20 years earlier.
My best teacher would have to be my grade 8 french teacher Mrs Green-something, can never rememeber her name we just call her madame, anyways she was an excellent french teacher, made it really interesting and easy, I also had her for grade 9 french, then she left for a year and her replacement was just horrible, she was dutch and her french sucked. madame came back in grade 11 and we were all behind from the last year, but she really helped us.

Lets see...I'll never forget my lst grade teacher...Our kindergarden was in a different school, so in lst grade we were going to a different one....Being 6 years old, and scared as hell, she was like having a mom away from home...Taught us so well, made sure we all stayed friends and took all of us under her wing...She used to tell my mom that I should take piano lessons, because my fingers were long and slender...I opted for dance original.gif

My worse teacher was in high school...I can't even remember her name, but I had her for geometry in my senior year...I hated math but needed it for nursing...Anyway, the day before graduation from h.s., she called me in and told me that I failed my final exam, and had to come in the morning of graduation to retake it, or my diploma wouldn't be signed...Being the smart ass that I was I told her I couldn't do it because I had a hair appointment, which in turn made her call my mom...(which I didn't think was very nice rolleyes.gif) and my mom had a mom's fit...So I went in, took the test, passed it and really hated her because my hair looked like crap for graduation.. mad.gif

Best Teacher...My HS Math Teacher, he made the subject fun, where ya wanted to learn. Part of it had to do with math being my favorite subject and having a teacher like that, only added to the interest of the subject. He made learning fun!

Worst Teacher...My college computer science teacher, he was a totall @$$. In his mind there was only one student in his class, he would spend the entire hour with just that person. The rest of us basically had to teach ourselves and tutor each other. Come evaluation time......well lets just say that our evaluations didn't rub the administration the right way. He deserved it!

Well, Mrs Higgins in grade 2 used to fall asleep at her desk, oh and snore as well. lol She was cranky to! disgust.gif
I figured when your old you get cranky and tired. lol

My grade 10,11 English teacher Mr Lemke was awsome, he used to tell us stories about croc infested waters in PNG and has been through alot living both In PNG aswell as NewZealand.
My Careers teacher Mr Day used to tell stories about the war and the Military etc. thumbsup.gif

Oh and my boarding house Misteress, Barb, OMG did I learn a thing or two about being a lady. She was tough. tongue.gif
Affliction
Mr Quinn: He was my business teacher who was incredibly boring and would have these outbursts of rage much like Mr Demartino from Daria. He had this catch phrase of sorts that he'd say when people angered him 'hey you're a loser!', wonderful it was.

Bonnie Blader - 8th grade Language Arts. She handed me back a (really messy) story I had written for class with a note that said "You are a writer. This scared the heck out of me. Try to be neater next time." She gets a 'Thanks' in my first published book.
