I got a question:
On this forum are 4 people posting that maintain a site of their own, those people are,
Loonboy
Althalus
SaRuMaN
Odin (me)
so now my question, why donīt we make a webring for those four sites. If it all goes well, other sites may join. We also have to come up with a good name, but thatīs something the whole forum can help with!
So, I await your answers. Just post them here )but you already guessed that of course.. ::))

Ok, I will set up the basic webring, think I'll got it before next weekend. At least, on the coming Sunday Chat it will be up and running. :D
Now all we need is a good name.. what about, The Unexplained Collective? :s6

Unexplained collective sounds ok to me too. :)
I can make a logo if you like - what size does it need to be ?
Also, is there an example of a webring using the script you have running somewhere - would be quite handy to see a working demo version. :s02

;D How's this for a catchy name:
The Exclusive Conglomeration Of Inexplicable Paraphernalia. :sg

SaRuMaN,
I think I am going to use the RingLink. It's rated very good.
http://www.ringlink.org/
There you'll also find some examples. I don't know how big it must be (the pictures) I will need to experiment with it a bit. Just make a basic picture for the Unexplained Collective, maybe Collective of the Unexplained is even better.. :s6

Tommy,
I suppose we could always shorten that and call it :
The ECOIP ;D
Odin,
Looks like a good webring script. I'll try and come up with a good logo image within the next couple of days.

[blue]Sorry for the late response, but I certainly think it's a good idea and would like to be a part of it. Let me know how it's going to work and what it's going to be called (when you've all finished discussing... lol).
Also tell me how it works, cos I ain't got a cluedo...

Loonboy,
All you have to do is add a code that I will give once I got it all up and running. Very simple.. Just cut and paste work. :)

Hows this for a logo. ( see attachment )
It's probably a bit too big, but it can be easily resized.

[blue]I like it. Would be better in a few different sizes and that way we can put the different sizes on different parts of our webpages. Eg. It would be too large for my homepage, but I could fit it easily into the Links section.
Good work, guys.

Nice one, it looks great.
The size does not matter too much to me, as it will go at the bottom of my homepage.

Ok Guys,
O got it up and running. The script that is, I still need a good description (max 400 words). So, If anyone knows a reall good one.. I can make one up myself but I think that you are able to come up with something better because you handle the english language better. ;D

Odin,
Actually on seeing that page I can probably make a more suitable graphic for the webring. I'll see what I can do on Sunday, as I wont be here tomorrow.
I'm not sure what to put as a description, but I'm sure one of us can come up with something.
Should be a good webring once it's all finished. ;D

[blue]I kinda like this one, provided we could somehow change the colour scheme to suit: eg blue and grey.
As for the text, are you meaning a brief summary of what sort of things our websites deal with and how they treat the material?

Just a description what kind of sites are in the webring, why we founded it, that sort a stuff. :sk

Ok, I got something,
QUOTE
The Unexplained Collective is a webring by and for webmasters of sites of the Unexplained and the Mysterious.
Now someone else. :s04
And something else, should we allow that everyone can join freely, or (what I prefer) should we first ckeck the sites and add them ourselves? (I will add them because I host the ring's code, but everyone can add a form to join the webring)
Odin S.
Althalus
Aug 31 2002, 01:48 PM
I would make it so that we check the sites first as it would allow us to make sure the sites are what they say they are.
How about this quote:
QUOTE
The Unexplained Collective, a webring devoted to the paranormal and the unexplained, by people that know it best.

[blue]Hey I like it. My own effort is:
QUOTE
The Unexplained Collective: a webring hosted by people intrigued by the mysterious, the paranormal, the unexplained, and the mystifying. Our material is researched, documented, structured and presented intelligently. From Ufos to ghosts, from bigfoot to mothmen, from oddities to classic mysteries, and more...
There's nothing like a little blurb to live up to... ;D
Plus, members should all get to vote on who gets to join.

That voting is a good idea, we could do it on a special section on this forum. Or we can mail them everytime when a new member arrives.
Loonboy,
I am going to use that text. Thanks. :sk

I agree that the voting is a good idea - would make sure that we get a ring of sites that we are all in agreement about, rather than everyone under the sun being able to join.
Odin, you've given me an idea for a new forum section.
"Webrings, links and other web sites"
We can do the voting there, and it can also be used by webmasters for announcing site updates and all that sort of thing.
Loonboy - nice ring description, sounds good to me. :s02

I got it up and running. I make it like this, everyone can add his or her site, but when they have added their sit, it isn't active yet. We then approve it and after that I remove the site or make it active.

Tommy,
That looks really nice! I could make two codes so the members can choose, but on the other hand, one code keeps it much clearer.. Hmm.. think I stay with one.. :sk
The code works now, but I have to change my site so that the code can be added to sites.

You can add the code to your site after you have added your site (go to http://www.mysterydatabase.com/webring)
SaRuMaN,
You have to change the code, I have changed a little thing, but remember the Site ID thing.. ;D

Loonboy, Althalus,
Remmbers that you have to change "ENTERYOURSITEID" into your sites ID, For Loonboy that is "LPZ" and for Althalus that is "Mysteries" it is important that you do that or else it won't work like it should. :sk

Thats the code added on my site as well. :s02
I've put it at the top of the links page for the moment - I will be combining the links page and search engine in the near future - so when that's all up and running I will make a dedicated webrings page as well.
http://www.unexplained-mysteries.com/linkexchange.htmSeems to be working okay - it goes to Loonboy's site when someone clicks Next, and Odin's site when someone clicks back.

The ring works fine for me now, and as Loonboy said is on my main page. The link that I posted is no longer needed, all I had to do was make sure there was no returns in the code (which i did) and that sorted it out.
