Hey everyone, I have been a fan of MMA for quite some time now and figured I would post up some links to videos, and hopefully can make a few of you fans too. There are so many aspects to MMA which make it a great sport. Wrestling, Jiu Jitsu, Standup fighting being from Karate, to Kickboxing, to anything your heart could desire. When 2 of these styles are put against eachother it can make for a great fight. When these people have to learn every aspect of the game, learn all styles from wrestling to kickboxing, and learn to think ahead like a chess match, then it makes a great sport!

Many people see clips from this fight and think that it cannot be real. Well in fact you all get to see it, and it is very real.

Well here are a few highlight clips from some of my favorite fighters.

First clip is of Fedor. Probably the best pound for pound fighter in the world. Ranked #1 on all heavyweight rankings. 20+ wins, 0 losses.

Next, Wanderlei Silva. One of the most exciting fighters you will ever get to see. (Signed with UFC and is rumored to be fighting in December)

(Incase you are wondering who is eating all those knees, it us UFC Light heavyweight champion Quinton Jackson.)

UFC Light Heavyweight Champion Quinton Rampage Jackson. (foul language in this one parents)

Right now MMA is little more than a fad. It's not the messias of the martial arts world that some think it is.

I think it's here to stay. It can't maintain it's popularity forever, but it's eclipsed boxing and even when it's popularity declines, I think it will go back up and down in cycles and I think this is the death toll for boxing. MMA is here to stay.

As for being the messiah of the martial arts world, sure, there's some techinques that can't be used in the octagon and the ring, but what MMA has done is exposed some of what certain traditional martial arts teache as being impractal. Stuff that doesn't work simpy doesn't make it into the octagon.

Fighting and the art of fighting are two different things. Traditional martial arts is an art, MMA is a sport, there's no comparison. I'm positive it's here to stay, I'm merely saying that right now it's simply a fad, and all the MMA kiddies you see running around proclaiming it's the best MA ever will eventually abandon it, when it is effectively established.

I think you are looking for traditions in the wrong places in karate. True traditional karate that was passed down generation to generation through family is what I believe truly "traditional". I have deep "traditional" karate roots, so you need not explain traditon to me. http://www.fightingarts.com/reading/article.php?id=426
Also that is a good place for you to find out that true traditional karate is for combat. You will learn where what you know as karate comes from.

Ok. I think you are wrong on every point, though.

And why can't something be a sport and an art? Isn't wresteling a martial art? Boxing is a martial ART.

I think you are wrong it has been progressively growning for 10 years. The UFC out sells pay for views for boxing or fake wrestling. All the UFC events sell out. It is here to stay. I have been watching it for 10 years. I have purchased every UFC pay for view for the last 2 years.

hey Eric, who do you like? Rashad or Bisping tomorrow?

I want Bisping, but based on his fight with Matt Hammil, and based on the fact that Rashad took Tito to task, I fear that Rashad is going to win.

Thoughts?

Rashad. I think Bisping was given the fight against Hamil. I think Rashad lost to Tito. I hope Rashad wins. Bisping is over rated.

I agree, I agree. Although I'm a Bisping fan, so I WANT him to win, I just think that Rashad has had more impressive showings as of late.

I think the only reason the Rashad Tito fight was a draw was because Tito grabbed the fence and lost a point, right? But as I recall, Rashad didn't take the beating he should have from Tito.

Well tito is really not that impressive anymore. He has a tendency to only want to be in someones guard, and try to drop elbows. Rashad is an upcoming fighter who is still being molded with the updated game of today. His ground defense will end up being better, his standup will, as well as his wrestling. Tito is not evolving at a pace where he can keep in with the game. I was suprised Tito lasted the fight.

As far as Rashad/Bisping, I am going to have to also give that one to Rashad. Bisping has shown alot of holes in his game that he needs some losses to correct. I say this being a Bisping fan.

I am not looking for traditions, especially not in karate. Who even said anything about karate. I think you've missed the point.

Which doesn't mean it isn't a fad, because it is.

Likewise. Can and is, again, are two different things. MMA is not much of an art, same goes for boxing. Most martial ARTS are also a sport, but not very good ones if you ask me. Just because some things are called an art doesn't make them so.

MMA has been around for a long time.

I actually graduated from HS with former fighter now big name trainer Matt Hume. I haven't seen him in years except on TV occasionally.

I tend to avoid any kind of body contact sports, they bother me. But I'll stop and watch Matt or one of his fighters if I run across them randomly on TV.
