c.doga,
For one thing, I am not that old. Although to you and Odin it may seem that I am. For another, it's O.K. to bring something up that has already been brought up. On Oct,20th I posted on this same topic: An intersting article on space.com web site about astronomers being inundated with new asteroid discoveries.

An interesting article I just read is one of a million examples of the fact that just cant predict when:  http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,42489,00.html

This is a continuation of the "Can We Predict When ??" thread which has developed a bug which is stopping any new replies from appearing. As a precaution I've locked the thread, and created this new topic to continue the discussion where the previous one left off.

Sorry for any inconvenience this may have caused.

It passed by us a couple of days ago only twice the distance away that the moon is to us!

There has been much discussion as to the lack of resources being utilized to actually locate asteroids and meteors, but not much discussion as to what to do about such a discovery if it's path is heading towards Earth. An interesting article talks about implementing spaced based missiles to assist us in defending my our planet: http://www.space.com/scienceastronomy/solarsystem/deflection_asteroids_020214.html

I think we can now predict when. An asteroid recently rediscovered after a 50-year absence could be on a collision course with Earth, NASA astronomers reported. But Earth has 877 years and 11 months to prepare for the potential catastrophe.  For more information CLICK HERE

According to the report, the odds of the asteroid actually colliding, even then, are 300 to 1
