Uppity Annoyance is dead and gone..Some are mourning; some are celebrating victories they never earned; some merely wait and watch..
Here's a secret..It's all been done before.
It's the cycle of this forum for groups to come and go. And always they are the same ones..
Skeptic this, Believer that; we're here for randomness and a wiffle ball bat..It's a little tiring to watch, much less take part in.
The reason I loved Uppity was because we had such fun while we were doing our thing. But alas, that's gone now too..
But my friends, I've been thinking..What if there was something completely new and never before seen on this board in the way of groups?
What if we had a group where the best and brightest of the Skeptics and Believers actually joined together? Where the common goal was not to bash one side or the other, but merely to promote thought in all it's various guises on this forum?
A group where people could argue with each other without malice but still band together in common defense; should it be needed..
Why not? We've talked about co-existing in harmony before. This could be the chance to prove it could work..
The only pre-requisite for joining would be that you've shown before that you are willing to use some measure of logic in how you approach things, and no matter how much you play you've shown quite some measure of intelligence..
And that's it..Belief or nonbelief would be immaterial.
As I said..It would be a private little group for those whose minds shine the brightest and who are willing to extend a hand to those who believe differently than themselves..
So...Those were my thoughts recently.What do you think? If anyone is interested in joining this Brain Trust let me know.

the most productve, vibrant, flexable groups are the multidisciplinary groups.

And within ten minutes I already had one confirmed member, one interested candidate and now a well respected member like yourself says it's a good idea..Perhaps the time has truly come for multi-tasking!

As if Falco didn't describe it well enough as it is... It's a way for the brightest, most tollerant skeptic or believer to join together as a single group. Something, in all my time here, hasn't been attempted... much less talked about. I wouldn't mind being a part, but I'm not exactly sure if I want to... For so long I've flown under an Uppity banner, to change so soon would be... interesting. But, you know what? Change would be a good thing; so, Falco, if you would have me, I'll join up.

Intelligent conversations that are tolerant of many viewpoints sounds great to me. Can I join? Do we get nifty titles? I've never joined a forum group before so, alas, my siggy's pretty bare.

I'd be glad to have you all on board as long as you're interested and think we can actually make this work. I haven't yet given a thought to titles and sigs and all of that; but I'm sure we can iron out some details..
The only thing I'd ask of you is that I get final say in who joins. That way I'll actually know who everyone is and it won't get out of hand like it did with Uppity Annoyance..

Every group needs a battle on this forum; but I don't want it to be done the way it was before. I don't want to fight Skeptics or Believers, but rather certain types of posters, I guess you could say..
What I'd like is this..
..To stamp out illiteracy-Anyone who writes in chat-speak who is a full grown adult, or nearly so should probably watch out..
..To oppose anyone who would call someone a liar or an idiot without at least hearing them out.
..To try to enlighten or produce thought in the minds of any who believe in something based on a falsehood or general lack of information..
..To smack the living hell out of posters who are just looking for a fight- You want it you got it, junior..
..To act as guides to newer members so they can appreciate this place as much as we do. Train a Noob today! For they could be your loyal minion tomorrow..
..And above all to apply logic and reason to every story we hear. We might believe or disbelieve as the case may be. That is irrelevant. It's how you arrive at your conclusion that matters to me..

I am quite content with the Beleivers corps. We're all skeptical beleivers anyhow and dislike illeteracy, so thats pratically the same thing.

Nothing Falco does is cheap. And as has been mentioned before by others this is quite a bit different from the Believers corps. Inasmuch as we will contain both hardcore skeptics and almost total Believers by the end..
In short, I'm turning what has been discussed by both you and I before Walken into a reality..Take that for what it is worth..
I'm hoping to avoid the childish sniping that went on between our two groups last time in this thread..

Yes, many of us do..But not together. Believers and Skeptics on this forum have very little contact with each other aside from an adversarial one, or an occasional comment here and there..
It only helps to cause resentment and smoldering grudges between people. I have come to see this. And I accept the part I played in it..
Call this an attempt to patch some wounds if you will. It may suceed or fail, but the intent was good..
I saw Uppity Annoyance go from a collection of proud posters to a group of dithering time-wasters and it saddened me. I see the Believers Corp trying to take a moral high ground and showing it to be false in light of their recent posts and that saddens me too. You must see it young Walken..Even in your own behavior. Not that I can entirely blame you..These things die hard..
What I hope to do here is start a group that promotes the overall welfare of this forum and help keep it the quality place it is, not just Skeptic and Believer..
And again; I may fall flat..But the attempt has been made..

And what, exactly, is wrong with having a group for a groups sake? It gives people a sense of identity.

I see no reason to nay say it, especially if the reasons for its existence are as listed above. If you are not interested, then don't worry about it. Or are you concerned that without the uppitys, the Corp is redundant?
And, as I have no wish to see this neophyte group launch under a cloud, I will say no more.

I honestly don't know what you're talking about. If you are reffeering to our victory celebrations; they have always been accompanied with the utmost respect to the Uppity. Intrestingly enougth, some of your ex-uppitys have also been crying victory, but for their side.



I do see where you're coming from, however surely just about evrey forum member wants what is best for this forum, therefore in a way we are all already part of an unspoken group. This idea just seems like an excuse to have a group.

I can call it an Uppity victory if only because I helped kill it before it got worse. Now I can remember it as something good..To tell the truth it's more of a personal victory for me, I suppose. There's nothing worse than seeing what you love turn around..
And if you're getting defensive about our ex-members behavior towards you, or indeed even my own semi-recent posts I can understand to an extent; but try not to let that color your opinion here..

And I must disagree..Most members like it here but just post and move on or chat and have fun. The real purpose here is to ensure harmony without having to be ultra-nice. I hope if we all follow some decorum our little group may come to serve as an example of quality, intelligence and humor..

You can say you're skeptical Believers I guess, but that's a logical fallacy if you think about it..

But let's not have that 'tag' stuff. This should be a group to support the forum, not to give us an identity by making us part of a group.

To be honest, I never saw much of a difference between Uppity and the Corps. anyway. They were alike, in the sense that: you both believe in things that make sense to you, you need atleast some evidence if you are going to believe in something, and if someone makes an absolutely ridiculous claim, you both recognized it as just that. The groups were the same in most every way except for, of course, the name.

This one single group makes much more sense than two seperate ones.

Falco, I love this idea, I really do, but when the debates etc. come along, who is going to want to debate against their own kind? Lets say a believer from this group of yours went against a believer from another group, what si the point, when both believe in the thing they are debating the existence of?

I think the best way to approach any situation would be with an open mind. The people I respect the most are the ones who have thought through their beliefs and not the ones who simply agree with me. We need more people to open up and understand the mind set of others, and remember it's perfectly reasonable to have a discussion without resorting to pointless name calling and childish behavior. The wonderful thing about having a discussion is that you get to be both teacher and student.
