Taken from Birmingham Evening Mail:
The Staffordshire town of Cannock is at the centre of a hunt for a six foot crocodile after reports of a croc on the loose sent fear down the spines of locals.
The reptile was spotted around the Roman View Pool nature reserve just beside the busy A5 road by house wife Linda Charteras.
She said ''It was like watching a wildlife programme, except it was in front of my own eyes in Cannock. It was either a crocodile in that lake or an alligator. There was no mistake.''
Others report that they saw the creature pursuing a swan and cygnets and that mysterious splashing had been seen in the murky waters. Police officers and reptile experts are now patrolling the lake as they search for any sign of the six foot creature.
It is thought that the creature could of escaped from the West Midlands Safari Park at Bewdley 40 miles away, which has Nile crocodiles and American alligators. But a precautionary roll call at the park accounted for all their reptiles.
This is not the first time that the West Midlands has found itself in the middle of a crocodile hunt.
Four years ago numerous sightings of a crocodile in a West Bromwich beauty spot sparked a similar hunt, although nothing was found. And eight years ago the remains of a crocodile were found in a brook near London.
The Roman View reserve has now seen a surge of visitors hoping to catch a glimpse of the reptile.
