I'm going to my first meeting tonight and was wondering if anyone else here is a member. I'm curious about what to expect and to maybe hear about some of your experiences. I've been on their website, but still would like personal opinions if anyone has one. Thanks! grin2.gif

Okay, well either no one is a member or no one knows what I'm talking about. No big deal. For those of you who are curious as to what it is, here is the link.

so you like recreating pre17th century European history? that's unusual. can't say that's ever crossed my mind before, but thanks for the linkie. maybe i will get the urge someday, now i know where to look original.gif

Wow, I have never heard of that, but it sounds very interesting starlyte.
I have created a game that recreates the 20th century globally. But to recreate the era of colonialism seems very fascinating to me.
Thanks for the linkie starlyte original.gif

Well, I went to my first SCA event last night, for any of those interested. It was just fighter practice (with fake swords) for the knights, but it was great fun. Those guys actually hit really hard! I wouldn't want to fight one of them. All the people were really nice, half in period wear, half not. A few people brought their drums and there was a mini drumming circle (which was great). It was a very relaxed time and I met some great people. My goal is to be able to actually participate at events such as the Renaissance Faire and other events around the area. Now to pick a period my persona will be from....I have strong Irish roots so that is one option. I also would be interested in Celtic and Romany periods. Anyway, I'm sure this is boring to you. Just wanted to let you know my experience in case any of you are interested. grin2.gif

You couldn't be further from the truth Starlyte. I found this interesting and I look forward on hearing about your progress. There are a few events in Brisbane throughout the year that are along the same lines.

A Medievil Fayre comes to Musgrave Park once a year which is great fun. Various small groups along the lines of the SCA put on displays and shows. They usually have swordfighting and jousting, blacksmithing, food etc etc etc

Please keep us up-to-date with your involvement, OK?

I haven't read these, but I'm pretty sure my boyfriend has the series. I'll have to give them a read. Thanks for the info and for showing interest, Kismit! grin2.gif

I took my children along to a Civil War reanactment last Summer. It was set in the grounds of Powderum Castle. They really enjoyed it especially when the cannons went off.
I really enjoyed trying to make the actors laugh when they were playing dead. laugh.gif Overall it was loads of fun and it looked liked the people who took part had a ball aswell, so well done to you Starlyte I'm sure you'll have a ball too. original.gif
