I know this just might be better suited for a blog entry, but it isn't everyday someone on UM get's mugged, so I figured it would be easier for people to see what happened if I just make a topic.

Just to give you an idea of where I live.
I live in a town called Twin Rivers. A mostly peaceful town where hardly anything criminal happens. This town is seperated into 2 parts, and the only way to get to each side is to either walk through the tunnel or walk across the high-way.

Date: Yesterday
Time: 7:30 P.M.

I had just left the house and was getting ready to go to the library, which is, unfortunatly, on the other side of Twin Rivers. I was close to the tunnel now, maybe 30 feets away, and I see 3 black men walk out of the tunnel. This wouldn't have been odd, but I noticed they were staring at me, and just then I noticed a car parked in the parking lot above the tunnel, with 2 other people looking at me. I look away from the car and hear a bike come right next to me. I looked over and see another black guy, on the bike, staring at me. So at this point I'm thinking Hmm..This is very odd.. I'm about 20 feet away now and I notice the man on the bike look back at me before he disappears into the tunnel.

[A few minutes later]

I'm almost at the end of the tunnel when I see the guy on the bike ride out from behind a corner and tries to ram me with his bike. I jump out of the way, he hits the wall, and then wheels around again to block my path.
"Give me your wallet, man"
" Yea, no"

And so, I stepped over his tire and continue to walk, but once again, he wheels around in front of me, but this time he pulled out a knife. I was now completely surprised, and my mind started racing, thinking what would be the best thing to do now. So I figured it wasn't worth the risk of getting stabbed, and gave him my wallet.
He took my wallet, and we both left the tunnel as if nothing happened.

With no money and no desire to go back home, I went to my friends house. I told them all what happened, we went to the tunnel to check things out, and that was pretty much that.

It was now 11:00.
I had just got home and I told my parents exactly what happened. My dad called the police (after telling me how I should have called the police right after it happened) and we wound up going to the police station. I told the police my story, and it turns out they caught the guy who did the mugging. So hopefully I'll get my wallet back soon, it had a whole ten dollars in it, and that is a terrible loss indeed.

Just to explain why I mentioned the other men who seemingly had nothing to do with the story; recently there has been graffeti everywhere saying "AG", so we all assume it is a gang. At the time I figured they were all together, and I still think they were.

So, in conclusion, if a bunch of people are staring at you with an evil glare right before you go in to a dark tunnel, just do yourself a favor and don't go in. thumbsup.gif

It's a good thing you weren't hurt. But don't you think turning one of them in would make them want to get even with you? And how are you going to get to the library now? tongue.gif

They are loads of "unsavory characters" where I live. And I'm lucky I wasn't there but my friends who are bmxers got their bikes stolen. The two guys who stole the bikes were pretty much out of their heads.
nick_fury
Damn, I personally hope the guy put up a fight when the cops caught him so they had to spray tear gas in his eyes, piece of sh**
wunarmdscissor
been there before m8 its not a nice experience.

hope you get over it well , bastards that they are.

when i was 16 i was on a bus coming home from partick in glasgow , quite a rough area, when i was robbed at of my CD player at knife point by 3 junkies.

hope the police get a hold of the guys that did it.

and even better than that your dad and a few friends.

nnot pleasant.

It's the black people, again.

No wonder there's so much prejudice against them these days...

Mr Ed
Here, they either mean towns people or scum.

**Serious Mode**

Glad your alright at least... it isn't worth getting diced up over 10 bucks.
XSAS

That is where I would come unstuck 10 bucks or nothing I would not hand my wallet over to anyone.

Glad you have more sense my friend, the main thing is your OK and can live to talk about it.
ABOTU
that sucks..... my friend was robbed, somebody stole their bike.... idiots.....
Redneck
Sorry that happened to you. At least you're okay.

When I used to have to walk home late at night in a city that didn't allow CCW I carried tee ball bat inside my gym bag. Everywhere I walked, the handle of the bat would protrude slightly from the bag, and I would keep one hand on it at all times, ready to start swinging like Joe Lewis. I carried a couple balls too, just for appearances. Co-workers thought I was nuts.

I also carry a decoy wallet stuffed with a couple bills and some important-looking but worthless cards and papers to throw at a mugger. If you really want to get nasty you can line its insides with razor blades.
XSAS
Yes the decoy wallet is good advice for travellers in different countries, plenty of low denomination notes that really add up to nothing and old out of date cards.
ROGER
And get a cell phone. their not that expensive and good to have no matter what the problem. stay safe!
Klown Face
thats gotta suck, but hey all he had was knife, most likely barely an inch 1/2.

when i lived in detroit i always kept a 9 by my side, or went with my gang, and that "AG" tag is most likely some kid that thinks he's all that and tryin to act "gangsta" glad you ok man

graffiti doesnt mean "gangs" and AG could have just been a new graffiti crew in your neck of the woods, i hate how people just assume graffiti automatically means your in a gang...now thats out the way, im glad your allright, and it must suck to rob someone with a weapon for 10 bucks and then get caught....how stupid, just goes to show who pointless crimes like that really are, hope you get your wallet...and your money back, also its a good idea to carry a knife on you for protection just incase a situation escalates, especially if you walk a lot, ive always caried a knife with me where ever i went when i walked cuz you never know, and this is not me telling you to have a knife battle with someone, always fork over what ever they want, but if they then try to get funny, at least you have some type of equilizer ya know? thats just me talking from expirience
_hAiLO_
It is a crime to steal a wallet and mug someone, but hey....its a hard world and people get desperate. Thankfully your not hurt man, thats the bright side. 10 Bucks isn't a big deal, but it is a big deal to the person who took your wallet, so people WILL mug us Middle-Classmen any day.

Anyways, very glad your not hurt!

Jayman! So it was you I mugged!

Thats right, I am the culprit. I've done my time, and now I'm roaming twin rivers on my bicycle yet again. next time you try to go through that tunnel Jayman, there'll be trouble. big trouble.

Jayman was describing the events oif the night he was mugged, he wis well within his rights to describe individuals as Black if they are black in exactly the same way he would have described them as white.

Would you prefer he ignored all the facts.

You might as well rob someone with a toothpick if all you have is a 1 inch blade. No matter what the size though, I still could have gotten hurt, and for what? 10 bucks and a library card.

QUOTE
but not to sound unsympathetic but what does their being black have to do with anything.

I think XSAS explained it well enough, thanks XSAS. I'm not mad at him for being black, I'm just mad that he took my wallet. Sorry, next time I'll just be completely vague and call him a human, I'm sure the police would have been fine with this description.

I'm not saying all graffiti is the calling card for a gang, I'm just saying that there really isn't any real point in writing "AG" on houses, bus stops, basket ball courts, and tunnel walls unless it has a huge significance to something; I'm sure a "graffiti crew " would be a bit more creative with their art. Also, AG has only shown up on certain objects recently. So recently, so near the tunnel, and so near the beginning of crimes that have never in my life time been commited here, that I just don't think it was wrong of me to assume it was a gang.

I was just saying that if we allowed these and similar reasons to be used as extenuating circumstances, there has to be some recognition that the basic rule of law still has to be applied, yes? Surely if we allowed people to get away with mugging others because they needed the money more than the victims did, there'd simply be anarchy?
Faeden
I am glad your OK Bud, you did the right thing.

I remember when I was about 18 in Brixton in London going to a Ice T concert at night, I was standing on a corner when a white guy and a black guy walked up to me, at first they where polite, and asked me what I had been up to, then they told me to empty my pockets out, I told them to go suck a door knob(well something along them lines thumbsup.gif ) they pulled out a knife, but what they failed to realise was I had 12 friends around the corner who at that very moment came walking from around the corner after getting some chips, lets just say the two muggers woke up the next morning with sore heads and testicles, infact there balls must have looked like water melons.

All the best

not calling you wrong, so dont take it the wrong way, just some info to enlighten:

"getting up" is a big deal to the graffiti culture, bus stops, basket ball courts, tunnels, road signs, overpasses, billboards, police stations, are all high profile "fame" spots. Graffiti is all about the fame. i've done all of these things in my teenage years....never houses though..thats just wrong

QUOTE
I'm sure a "graffiti crew " would be a bit more creative with their art.

i agree with that, you can mostly tell when graffiti is gang related or just graffiti related in general by the hand styles of the actually graffiti, however, new kids [toys] in the graffiti game dont know the culture very well and dont have these styles developed enough to do any better. there is A LOT of kids up in my city who "do graffiti" rather than gang bang, and suck horribly at it, im just saying because you said your town is over-ran with teenagers...graffiti for the most part is a teenager thing

QUOTE
Also, AG has only shown up on certain objects recently. So recently, so near the tunnel, and so near the beginning of crimes that have never in my life time been commited here, that I just don't think it was wrong of me to assume it was a gang.

that makes sense, however, again, new kids in the graffiti game also dont realize that if you want to "get up" you should start not close to where you live, the cops are not stupid and will look for the areas these tags/bombs/blow ups/whatever are located in to try and pin point where the culprit lives. i also just think you were in the wrong place at the wrong time, i dont feel the kid who mugged you, actually has anything to do with AG, just my personal opinion, of coarse i could be 100% wrong
