I was just thiking. It's been my experieince that it does not matter how good your work is, how many times you are never late or abscent, or how much effort you put into your job but that people at your job like you. If they decide they don't like you you are out - they will make up some reason. Thoughts comments experiences?

In some cases, well, most that I have seen, that is true. I know a girl at work that has been written up three differant times (fireing quota) and should have been written up twice since then, and nothing has happened to her, but yet another guy had reached his quota and he was gone that day!! Annoys me when there is that type of favoritism in the work place. Part of being a good employee is trust and dependability!! *sigh* must go to work today... rolleyes.gif original.gif

yes, i know exactly what you mean. my very first job was at a crap fast food place and the manager hated me. the reason he hated me was because he said i thought i was "too good" to work there. well, who the hell wouldn't think that?

anyways, the root of this theory of his was because i would bring my uniform with me to work (coming from school) and change in the restroom. it wasn't that i was late, it was that i refused to be seen driving around in that stupid uniform. the employees had a small personal area in the back and i would fold my clothes neatly and leave them there. i also carried a toothbrush and toothpaste with me because i hate eating without brushing my teeth(i used to brush my teeth after lunch at school). i would put my travel toothbrush and toothpaste there as well.

one day, i was sitting at the drive thru bored out of my mind when i see my manager running up to the dumpster in the back with a pile of clothes. he chunks them in and runs back towards the back door. i went back to the employee area and my clothes and things were gone. i asked people where they were and no one knew, so i went back and checked the dumpster and my clothes were there. i told that jackass i saw him throw them out and he denied it. a few days later, i lost that job. he claimed it was because my register was 27 cents short but i know why he 'terminated' me. it was because he didn't like me.

i had come to work and just changed into my uniform when i was confronted by my manager and informed that they had terminated me. i was standing in the customer area and he told me over the counter. he said that they would need my uniform back or they would hold my check until i returned it. i was angry, so i made a little scene right in front of the counter. i stripped down to my boxer shorts and said 'you want your %(@%# uniform, here is your %(@%# uniform!" and i threw it in his face. i was so mad that i didn't notice how many customers were sitting in the dining area. they all started clapping at me and i walked out with my pride (little else) and drove away. the next day i went to school and at my first class of the morning EVERYONE was staring at me and smiling. i was a very quiet and shy person, so naturally this was out of the ordinary. i just sat down and my teacher was like "hello there Mr. Schwartz, ive heard about your career change". i was like, "what are you talking about?" turns out, the girl who sat next to me in that class was at the restaurant and witnessed me stripping like that. it was kind of embarrassing but i ended up getting lots of dates because of it original.gif

yes i agree.

I work in a large community hospital. People there tend to belong in cliques ( small informal groups). if you dont agree with or if you upset one member of that group, you have the whole group to deal with. I have seen them drive good compitent nurses out. Fortunatly i get along with everybody. lol. devil.gif

There is no absolute job security. If they don't like you, they can get rid of you, and that is the way it should be, in my opinion.
What I mean is, everyone has a free will, and can quit their employment anytime they want, whether there is a notice or not. Obviously, I'm not saying it's fair for an employer to fire an employee without reason, or a reason that is in violation of the law.
An important asset to job security is playing office politics. It is a fact that one can't climb the employment ladder without participating in office politics. However, there are some people that play it too well, at the expense of actually doing their job to the best of their ability, and also at the expense of their fellow coworkers.
So, although it's no guarantee of job security, participating in office politics is an important tool for advancing in your career field, and without learning it, you can forget about job security in any field.

On the most part, if you wanna keep your job, you will. I have done some dumb things in my personally life that have effected my working or my 'not working' (not showing up.) But I have always been able to keep any job I needed bad enough. Most of the time if you are honest about your actions or reasons for whatever, the boss will appresiate that. Good business ethics will get you to the top as Homer was saying, but no boss likes a "kiss-ass". You have to know and respect your limits.

The first stock brokerage firm I worked at I felt horrible to have to quit because I did a good job, but I was moving so had no choice. This is what I was told, "No one is irreplaceable." That put things in perspective for me. I just wake up everyday glad that I still have a job, knowing that no matter how well I do at anytime I could lose that job.

I agree with Homer that it really depends on how badly you want to keep the job, I've had jobs where I got along with no one but stayed because I needed to find something else first, of course, I would also get burnt out and end up quitting before then. So basically, I've quit all the jobs I've hated and been fired from the ones that I liked, because I'd be in a mood and put someone out. I've just gone and thoroughly confused myself.

I work for the government, so I don't really have a job.

I had a job, teaching once. We were split up in teams of 5, and sent to a school in an area. Well, I was the only one on the team that had any experience, cause it was my 2nd year in the program. This girl that was on my team didn't like me for no reason. She'd come up with really dumb ideas and swear at me if I did not want to do them, or she steal my ideas and pretend they were hers. She told the boss that I was lazy and incompetant cause I did not let her push me around. When that didn't work, she told the boss that I should not be allowed to use my experience, cause it wasn't relevant. Well that pissed me off. She then started to tell the boss, I did not say Hi to her, when I did say Hi. The way I felt was if you'r gonna lie and tell the boss that I'm not saying Hi..... well I not gonna say hi. Even tho, the boss initially likedme enough to keep me in the program for 2 years, she felt sorry for this girl. the boss always took her side. We'd have mediations and the boss would tell me to shut up, and not give me a turn to speak, and if I quit I would never get a reference. I went from the A-list to the sh*t list. In the end, I stayed for my term of service, didn't get no stinken reference cause the director made me fill out an evaluation on what I thought of her. I told the truth, that she was rude, and that she did not respect my rights and that it was wrong of her to yell at me in front of someone else. I mean she never ever yelled at this girl in front of me. Cause I did not like the way I was treated, the director treated me a little sh*ttier everyday. The only good thing that came out of it was, that the crazy girl that said I did not say hi.... well in the last mediation she shot up out her chair... ran her fingers through her stringy her.... hit her head on the table and passed out. w00t.gif devil.gif

"Your Fired."
"No i'm not."
"Yes...you are."
"No i'm not, i'm cooking up to good a story. Shoo!"

Would that work?

sarkypi, why did you take that type of crap from her? I've only had two jobs that are real. At the first one which was at a small museum as a tour guide, they paid me minimum wage and expected me to do allot of stuff. I always did as I was told because I would do my job and I never spoke to anyone, except the people from the group(s) I was leading at the time. I never bothered to socialize with the other guides or docents and my bosses never cared because I always did my job. After 3 years there they hired this little b!tİh who was in charge of personel who worked there. Well, she was always on my case because she had a better position then me. She would complain about allot of things and cause messes and always had me clean up or have me moving chairs and tables for events by myself. After like 3 weeks of her being there she reported me to our boss. Well; my boss grabbed me and said he needed a word with me, as soon as he said that I was being hostile towards the lady. I went off and I cursed him out for like 5 minutes straight and I told him the truth. Well, I didn't lose my job because it was just her word against mine, because I never bothered to socialize with any one and the people who knew her and would have supported her knew me from school and knew that it was better to stay quiet. Welll I kept the job for like another year after which I quit because I was tired of hearing that lady bitch.

I didn't quit my job, cause We got paid minimum wage, and after u complete your 1700 hours u get $5000 for school. You quit before then u don't get the $5000.
I guess I was an idiot. sad.gif
I thought the truth would prevail, and set me free.
I was going to quit several times. At one point, I requested a transfer and got it. Right before the transfer, this b@tch told everyone that I was being transfered cause she proved that I was incompetant. This made me so angry, that I did not transfer. (stupid, I know). Plus, I wouldn't get to work with the autistic children. Which I loved.
She was harassing me with a friend of hers. (there names were tom and jerri).
When I was having these problems I went to a psychic. She told me to give them an "El Floppo". For example, they would ask for my opinion, and then tell me I was stupid. The psychic said, that was an "El Floppo" moment. so my reponse should be, "Sorry, I'm stupid, can't answer that, cause I'm sooooooooo stupid. It worked with Tom. He yelled and screamed and quit the next day.w00t.gif
"El Floppo", had the opposite effect on Jerri, tho.. It just fueled the fire. She never forgave me, for her evil plan backfiring.

Ive never had a paying job (though I have taught loads, which makes me smile) anyways, I just got back from handing in my job app. form...and I hand delivered it to the store manager about a half hour before the store opened...
grin2.gif
So that bears well with me...now all I need is for them to actually tolerate my apalling handwriting
