Curiosity.
If you like meat, why do you want to become a vegan?

Why don't you just take small steps? You can start by cutting out red meat, then poultry, then fish, and keep going like that until you're free of animal by-products.
There are a lot of veggie 'meats' available on the market that might help with your transition.

The only problem being a pure vegan is you have to make sure you get your adequate protein(ie.beans and rice). This is finding out what non meat/dairy products combine to give you the complete amino acids you'd get from fish, liver etc.
For myself, this is too much work to figure out what foods you need for balance. That's why I eat fish. Plus I love it.
I myself eat mostly vege's, fruits and nuts/grains..with consumption of 1%/skim milk, egg whites and lottsa fish. No butter/margerine/cooking oils(except the occasional virgin olive oil), lottsa garlic/cayenne. I consume rarely any junk food, except beer!
One thing for sure, you should stay waif thin/healthy(if you do it right) on a diet like this. Don't 4get, exersize is awesome too.

They don't really taste like anything. They're pretty much like regular hot dogs, only they are thinner, and can "tear" easily.

Nah you don't notice much of a difference once all the condiments are on.

Tofu burgers are even better than normal burgers. I thought about becoming a vegan but then I decided not to even try it out. I love my meats and the nutrients they give me.
I have a question, WHY be one? What are the great advantages besides not eating a little animal? Besides, in the Bible it says that God gave us clean animals to eat, or something along those lines.

I am sure others will have their own opinion, and I am not vegan or even vegetarian but I love trying new things and things with less calories and fat. I am going to try the meatless hot dogs soon.

give up dairy first. eliminate other nasties such as processed sugars as well first. when it comes to the meats, eliminate the chicken first.
i would recommend avoiding any of those processed "vegan" foods like tofu dogs. carageenan is not good for you and is quite commonly used in such foods.
aim for what you DO eat as much as what you don't eat.
eat a plenty of leafy veggies, eat alkalyne foods in aboundance, and acid-forming foods as little as possible. make sure to eat grains and nuts as well (raw nuts, not roasted). you will find many oils on the market for your efa's, depending on how much work you want to do though, the best sources are from the least processed foods so for example grinding your own flax seeds and consuming within 20 minutes is the best way to get your omega 3, and sesame seeds are high in calcium.
eat superfoods (foods that are most nutrient dense per calorie) such as chlorella and hemp for protien.
really really avoid processed foods as much as possible. the "healthy vegan" processed foods are a marketing tool. if you want veggie-burgers or other such things they are easy enough to make yourself (with tofu).
hope this little bit helps you. if you have any questions feel free to pm me.

Mmmmm, veggie burgers...
I could never live without meat. Don't get me wrong, I love animals, I adore them, but they taste good, sorry. I honestly wouldn't mind if they started eating us. Yum, human flesh.

May I ask why you are thinking of becoming a vegan? Because if it's just through a love of animals or animal rights, then there are a lot of swell companies that produce cheese, milk, butter, eggs and what not. These kind of companies really care for the animals and go through evrey step to ensure they're comfortable.
In my experience evrey super market has at least one brand of animal-friendly animal-products - excluding meat, of course.

Wow, that wasn't even a run-on sentence. True other people will eat animals, but there will be one less person. Some people also do not eat animals because of health concerns. If you don't smoke, will that stop others from doing it? Probably not, but at least you're more healthy because of it.
I still eat cheese and ice cream. I really need to make some ice cream out of soy milk.
Battlestar Scralatchtica, if you can you could grow some veggies in plant pots. I have a couple of banana pepper plants growing out in my back yard, and I use them in everything.
