No.

Well, I don't personally think you'll go to hell for listening to that, nor having tattoos, or anything like that. I believe what's important is the relationship between you and your creator. Now, when you get up to the pearly white gates of heaven and St. Paul is there and asks you "what music did you listen too"? and you go to hell for it, just tell them it was Sunni's fault here on UM tongue.gif
It's the relationship b/t you and God.. that's whats number one. :]

Tattoos???? Well I've got six of those, about to get a seventh, I best get ready .......

Listen, seriously anyone that said those things to you hasn't a clue laugh.gif
Tannenisis
No, none of those things are Satanic unless the heart utilizing the music or tattoos has the intent to make it thus.

Dont worry, 50s rock like Chuck Berry and Jerry Lee Lewis is the devils music.

Oh, yes! You're going to Hell! All that Satanic music is a one way ticket to burn! huh.gif

Don't fear God! He's there to be your teacher/guide/mentor/father figure! Trust in Him, rejoice in Him, but fearing Him only builds a barrier between you and Him. Look at it this way, mankind is supposedly brought into Heaven to praise God and sing His praise, right? You'll be one of the ones with a new sound to your song. God needs variety too! thumbsup.gif

I was raised in the 80's when the controversies over Ozzy, Motley Crue, Alice Cooper, etc. were big. The best quote I can give you is this: "We're saying shout at the devil, not shout with the devil." Yeah, it's old and maybe a bit outdated, but it still works...kinda. Take care!

I love types of metal and I am a Christian as well. I love led zeppelin, even though they are alleged satanists I still love their music. I believe some metal bands do have satanic influence behind them, but if you like their music, and the negative message doesn't change your beliefs, then it can't touch you. So just enjoy what you like.
swtp
I am a Christian and i love all kinds of music including metal, but i love God more !God gave me common sense and i try to use it,if there,s a group or artist who mocks or belittles my faith and Christ,of course they are off my listen to list, but there are plenty of great bands to choose from that don,t do that so why not enjoy them? Again i use my common sense if there is music that makes me angry or insites me to hate anyone i choose not to listen to it. You have to look into your own heart and think about weather the music your listening to takes you on a path away from your beliefs and faith. As for going to hell because you listen to this music or get a tattoo,no way ! We are all sinners even the so called best christians sin on a daily bases! And if they say they don,t their decieving themselves! And it seems they are always the first one to point fingers and selfrightiously condem others when they should be looking at their own truths! Your a Christian so you,ve read the bible, doesn,t Christ say that no one comes to the father but through me? And he did pay for every sin all of us have, are and will commit! He said who soever believeth in me will not parish but have ever lasting life! And no matter how good i am even if i never sinned again and did good deeds for the rest of my life, if i don,t believe in him and his sacrifice,i won,t go to heaven, because as the bible states,The good deeds of man are but dirty rags in the sight of God,Thats why we needed Christ as the ultimate sacrifice,to pay for the sins we would and continue to commit! We don,t have the power to save ourselves and we can,t buy our way into heaven, only Christ can do that and only God not man can judge us!So my advise is simply this, examine your heart ,meditate on his word use your God given common sense and seek the truth with all your heart and finally talk it over with him,and you,ll find the answer thats meant for you!Good Luck and God Bless! yes.gif thumbsup.gif

I don't understand how thats possible?

No, don't worry. Music is art and art is always to be appreciated. Its not the music you listen that makes who you are. But its what you do and how you live your life that counts. Music can influence tho, thats a truth, but if you just appreciate the music as what it is, music, and dont take seriously or believe in the possible 'evil lyrics' which u may listen, your just fine! Metal lyrics can be a bit harsh, but its just a style, most of them aren't satanic at all even if they may seem so! I love metal and always will say that it is great music original.gif

You can always listen to some Christian Metal too thumbsup.gif

In and of itself there is nothing wrong with music - any music. Metal is no different. There are lots of great metal songs and metal bands (even going into the darker and heavier Death Metal, Speed Metal, Doom Metal, etc). However, if one is proclaiming to worship God while listening to a song that advocates killing onesself or lyrics that suggest we murder God or set ourselves up as God, then I'd question whether a Christian listening to this really understands the gospel message. In short, there are a lot of good heavy metal songs out there, but there are also a lot of songs that go against the gospel message. As long as you use wisdom and discretion in the actual songs you listen to (which you should do with any music genre, because a lot of music has definite anti-Christian agendas) then there is nothing wrong with heavy metal.

As for tattoo's, the Bible does specifically state that we are not to get tattoos (Leviticus 19:28). However, in this section of the Bible we are also warned against shaving our beards and wearing clothes made from two types of fabric. Back when Leviticus was written, a tattoo was generally not a decorative or meaningful image but rather a mark of ownership - it was a sign that the person marked belonged to someone else, and the mark designated who owned them. By tattooing oneself, it was a proclamation "I belong to this group/person/tribe". In this sense, God does not want his people to give themselves away to another person, but to pledge themselves to Him only. In the modern context, this may still apply in some contexts (motorcycle gang members tattooing themselves with the club icon, for example. This might be considered as breaking the rules of Leviticus. However, most tattoos are decorative or hold some personal meaning to the one receiving it and do not indicate ownership. As such, as long as one does not let tattoos take over their lives (ie, in moderation), I don't think there's anything wrong with tattoo's from a Christian perspective.

Hope this helps you,

~ PA

Don't worry. Don't allow yourself to be categorized into small minded beliefs. I know a couple church going people that listen to metal and thrash. There is also such a thing as Christian metal. Tattos and metal music is an artistic expression that you should have the freedom to enjoy. Not all metal preaches against religion. Church going, religious or not, it's OK!!

Our bodies are our temples, so tattoo away. Metal is an expression and a release. Like all good music it has awasome lyrics. Vvv""vvV

I'm a Christian too, and I don't see a problem with it.

As long you have a good, personal relationship with the Lord, it's all good in the hood.

Maybe tats of the religious nature buy you some brownie points.....haha.

Na, don't worry about the "hell" business rubbish. But ya know, there is lots of really great music out there. Some of it is Jazz, some is Soul, some is Rock, Some is Blues, some is Punk, some is Classical, and among all the different types of really great music, and yes even Metal, you'll often find music which is so divine that it is way beyond comprehension the first few times people hear it. My advice to you is this: keep listening to your divine Metal music, but never turn into a music fascist. I've often listened to Metal and I actually love lots of it.

Take care, LG

Listening to metal and having tattoos ain't gonna send you to hell. Never forget that the Bible is open to interpretation and it sounds like your church haven't interpreted it properly. Like someone else said in this thread your body is a temple and as long as you don't abuse it you will be fine.
I grew up during the 80's/early 90's with metal and it hasn't hurt my sense of right and wrong.
Don't worry LG you'll be up there.

Lol. I like this tread. Theres finally a topic we can all agree on. Well what do you know. No, hon, death metal wont send you to hell, it will only make you smarter. Though there have been experimence I have heard of where metal was played for house plants and classical was played for other house plants. The ones that listened to metal didnt thrive as well as the others, but what do plants know?

kinda funny ya say that. I mainly listen to classical and one day I went out and bought this bleedin plant. I did everything I could for it, I used to sit there talkin to it for hours, and I even gave it a couple of beers everyday. But what happened? I'll tell ya what happened, the little b....... went and died on me anyway. I don't know why, maybe it was because of all the crap I was telling it, but I did my best

Well I dunno about death metal.. But there is black metal. Most of the scene is straight up Satanic or Anti-Christian and/or Pro-Paganism. I dunno if you would take offense in some of the artists' actions (such as murders, church burnings, etc.) but the music good.

As for tatoos, looked down upon or not, I just recommend dont get something extreme because Im guessing when you're really really old you're gonna regret having it. IMO
ivytheplant
I was taught in church that listening to music was akin to worshipping false idols. Something about monarchies worshipping the royalty, therefore listening to Queen and Prince was idolatry.

Yeah, I know.

Tattoo's are not allowed(considered desacraiting one's self).Piercing of any kind is also a form of mutilation, wich is also a no no.Remember, your body is a temple, treat it as such.I mean, really, would you paint a flaming skull on the side of your house? As far as music goes, the church would love to tell you what to listen to.Know what?Listen to what ever your heart desires.Your not gonna burn in hell just for listening to music, unless of course it's country,or rap.country+rap=crap so yer cool.(oh,btw the tattoo on my arm isnt real)

Wasn't it Jesus that said, "Rock out with your c*ck out!"... or do I have a different guy in mind?

Yes listening to metal or anything similiar is bad, surely God will punish those who have such bad taste in music,
The last time i heard metal, some guy was simply screaming his head off...you call that music??
Only a moron could appreciate something as stupid as metal.

I might. But I wouldn't get a flaming skull tattoo either. I'd most likely get a tattoo that I'd also want to paint on the side of the house.

Other cultures also view the body as a temple, but tattoos and piercings are a way they honor it. You say that tattoos an piercings are mutilations, but what about the Christians who practiced things like self-flagellation, wearing tight bands on their chest, hair shirts, rocks in their shoes, etc. To them, suffering was a way to get closer to God. Same with other cultures who have ritualized piercings (I can't remember the specific one I'm picturing), hooks in their back, spikes in their face, etc during a religious celebration. There are also Christians in Mexico and South America who crucify themselves to honor Christ.

Well, seeing as how personal tastes are...well...personal, I'm sure there's more than enough people out there who think your musical tastes (whatever they may be) are the most horrific ear-bashing nonsense this side of the galaxy.

The difference in being an a****** and not being one is whether you loudly proclaim someone is a "moron" and "stupid" for liking something that's simply a matter of personal taste. I think Creed is a godawful waste of sound waves, but I'm not going to tell people they're morons for liking it. I have no problem with people liking it. That's their personal preference. And more importantly, because it doesn't matter.*

*Unless they're blasting music at 3am, which is annoying no matter what type of music it is. I don't care if it's by the greatest musician ever born, if it wakes me up in the middle of the night, it has to go.

Organized religion will naturally tend to outlaw anything that undermines their authority; therefore, listening to whatever kind of music they don't like will send you to hell. They did it in the roaring '20s all the way to the present. They did it during the age of "classical" music (such things as "too many notes"), and they'll continue to do it. Listen to what you want.

The only caveat emptor is that certain beats and frequencies disrupt body functions through the mind (fact). They cause faster or slower heartbeat, shifts in mental frequencies, body frequencies, and so forth.
So if you decide to get into such things as meditation, forget the rock music with heavy beats and use the more classical music, such as Mozart, as calming music. Forty years of research has shown beyond question that rock music retards plant growth and classical promotes it. Much as some would like to debunk that, there is too much data to support it. I knew of a guy in San Francisco in the 70s who grew the best pot in the world, and his 'secret' was to constantly have classical music playing in his little greenhouse. lol
