silent/one
i heard a story many years ago that unpon a death that a crow will show up at the location to carry the soul to its final resting place and if there is a second or third crow close that sole is important and is protected by those other crows being guardians.

it came to my attention as a few days ago an old man opposit my house passed away he had lung cancer and had been fighting it for four years but in the end it got the better of him (he was in his late 80's) and there was a crow that was there from the day he died to the day after the wake at his house and ive not seen any crows since.

Hi silent/one....from what I remember when crows are seen it is supposed to be a bad omen, and if the crow is cawing, it is supposed to mean they are announcing the death of an individual...From your story, I would have to believe it...

Yes, I heard something like that. All I actually know is that Crows have been known to peck out the eyes of lambs, then proceed to peck the blinded animal to death. Nice, eh?

here's a poem about crows:

ones bad
twos luck
threes health
fours wealth
five is sickness
and six is death

Oh my! At my great grandma's funeral a crow came out of nowhere and sat on her grave. Lots of people thought it was her spirit or something. I wasn't particularly sure to be honest. huh.gif

Stephen King wrote about psychopomps in his book, The Dark Half.

An excerpt from the link:

Many religious belief systems have a particular spirit, deity, demon or angel whose responsibility is to escort newly-deceased souls to the afterlife, such as Heaven or Hell. These creatures are called psychopomps, from the Greek word ψυχοπομπός (psychopompos), literally meaning the "guide of souls". They were often associated with horses, whippoorwills, ravens, dogs, crows, owls, sparrows, harts, and dolphins.

Though SK.... (My favorite book of his my the way was The Dark Half)

Was right in Crows were to bring the souls to the land of the dead, and smaller birds were to bring new life. I don't remember if it was the Sparrow or not. I'd have to get out my animal guide book.

But I think part of that's the reason why a flock of crows is called a 'murder'.
