Tests on mystery spiders at flats

The spider is the size of a child's hand, says Steve Jennings
An army of spiders, one as big as a child's hand, have been spotted near some homes in Powys.
The mysterious breed, which has a black body with yellow stripes, has set up home outside some flats in Brecon.

Baffled environmental health officers have caught some the creatures and sent them away to be indentified.

It is thought that a large female, who has hatched hundreds of off-spring, could have been an exotic pet which has escaped.

More than 50 webs have been spun near in a courtyard near the flats in an area called Friar's Yard.

Reminds me of the film Aracnaphobia.

"They are black with yellow stripes on their legs and body, and they are very fast and quite aggressive"

*shudders* that gives me chills. I don't mind passive spiders, but aggressive ones freak me out - and these guys have taken over a courtyard. I wouldn't be able to sleep... I'd get a flame-thrower and take them all out.

Mr. Mummy's Merry Maiden!
dontgetit.gif crying.gif dontgetit.gif Well, I hope these creepy spiders don't start being brought to anywhere close to where I live, otherwise I might never leave the house again!

There is a smaller size, the size of an infant's hand with the same coloring, common in the bushy areas in the southern US. At my first apartment, there was a huge spider, same markings, that strung a web just above my front door. It cost me a girlfriend because I would not take it down, but it was a beautiful sight to see.

I wished the girl would not have been so scared of it.

That Sooooo creeps me out! I,ve heard so many storys where exotic pets have escaped and managed to adapt so well that they then devistate the native species, which of course screws up the local ecology causing a real problem! I hope they get controle of these spiders before they do too much damage! And i wish people who feel they just have to have an exotic pet behave more responsable! disgust.gif
