Germany to launch Death Channel

A round-the-clock television channel devoted exclusively to ageing, dying and death is to be launched in Germany.

Eos TV will feature documentaries about graveyards, televised obituaries, tips on finding a decent retirement home and even how to install in-house stair lifts.

Wolf Tilmann Schneider, 51, a former TV producer, has joined forces with Germany's funeral association to launch the 24-hour, seven days a week channel on cable television and the internet.

He said: "More than 800,000 people died in Germany last year. Multiply that by four and you have a rough estimate of the number of relatives affected.

"They will be our target audience. We are convinced that Eos TV will attract viewers."

The channel aims to capitalise on the changing demographics in a country that has one of the lowest birth rates in the world.

Last year there were almost 150,000 more deaths than births, and an estimated 2.1 million elderly people were receiving professional care.

Viewers who tune into Eos TV can expect to be entertained by documentaries highlighting the beauty and tranquillity of graveyards both in Germany and abroad.

"It may come as a surprise, but older people really enjoy visiting cemeteries - not just to mourn, but for their peace and quiet," Mr Schneider said.

Which is kind of true. The old cemeteries look like that, the newer ones look like land development for the poor.

Those were great, I've been to three. Very relevant to my studies, to my knowledge it's about education not art, it's set up in a way for people to learn about the human body. One trip through an exhibit, and I knew the entire make-up of the human body. You even get to see the organs of those who drink and smoke - it puts you off alcohol and cigarettes - and the process of a fetus at every week/month, even an entire human body carved into centimetres so you can see the make of our bodies. One of the most amazing things I've ever seen.

all the ghosts and spirits of the world just went to germany, they want you, no not you, yes you, they want you to come and join them. tongue.gif

what a crazy world we live in wouldnt it be a waist of time because you probably have a heap of time after death to learn it all.
Lotus Flower
Personally, I would find viewing a "death" channel a tad depressing! ohmy.gif

I agree with Lotus on depression.......It's like finding a remedy for your sickness but the doctor tells you it can cause headache, nausea, diareah, disorientation, depression, frequent urination, halitosis of the blow hole...well you get the idea...
m. Moe
Wow, this channel sounds depressing and boring.
LostLittleGirl
