I used to write these all the time: a series of 5 linked haikus with an extra line of 5 syllables. Haven't written one in more than a decade, so I figured I would try one.

Midnight on Mars

My dark angel dreams
her soft mahogany skin
cool as the thin sun.
I sleep in shadows
like oily-slick night breezes
thrown by shaking hands.
Wildflower's wisdom
speaks secrets in icy jade tones
to her deaf offspring.
A sum of moments
we orbit a crimson dot
as Phobos, Deimos.
She moans in her sleep
memories as bright nightmares.
I clutch her to my
own aching scarred breast.
