I don't remember when it happened. But I think it happened around when Hurricane Rita hit MD. That one year. I don't recalling really. But my computer has no sound whatsoever! It's not the speakers, the computer says no "sound card." My dad has found the card & tried to put the thing back onto my computer. But it said it would have to delete everything on the computer to do so. (What thing ever!) So my dad stopped from trying to put sound back onto my computer. He says we have to get our "Geek Guy" (who's really nice) to do it.

I told my stepdad Claude about it. And he said to reset the computer or whatever back to the date of when it happened. I said that I didn't want to lose anything that I already have on there. And said it's not going to happen. But I'm still to afraid to do it.

Help!

Edit: My computer is an "emachines" which I've had since like '03. Or some around there. My old computer which was my dad's computer had no sound. But we where planning to throw that one away. And just get me a completely new computer.

Sounds like you just need to reinstall the audio drivers. That's pretty easy, if this is the original card that came with the computer, try this:

Go here (emachines support).

Select desktop/notebook, your series and model... usually there's a sticker on the front, for instance T#### would be a "T-series", then enter the entire number in the next box.

Then select "Downloads" (The little + to the left of downloads expands it).

Under "Audio" Select the "Download" link.

Select "Save". Under "Save in" at the top of the window, select "Desktop".

Let it save, go to your desktop, double click the file, and you can probably take it from there.

If this doesn't work, you may have some other issues or the software isn't that great and you need to do it manually. If you bought the card later, look for the disks or find the website of the company that made the sound card. Make sure the speakers are plugged into the correct device, either the sound in the motherboard (by usb, serial ports, etc) or the add on pci card by the horizontal slots. G'luck!

Thanks, Episteme. I'll have my dad try that. If we don't get ahold of our Geek Guy.

Put the card in and Windows should prompt you for a driver disk. If not, go to add hardware wizard and reinstall. Check to see that the computer see's it in device manager.

Why is it the typical windows wizard solution never occurs to me anymore? I'm always operating on the assumption Windows isn't ever working the way it should be... geek.gif

Thanks, Aztec. I'll have dad try that too.

Will I lose anything if my dad does this?
