I like know everything

w00t.gif Thanks
Bella-Angelique
Vlad was seen as very sadistic by many because of the way he would stake insects and small animals casually much in the manner that some might doodle designs with a pen on a scrap of paper, that he was preoccupied with causing and studying death habitually.

The History Channel ran a newer show about Vlads' castle recently....Bram Stokers' Dracula is a combination of two historic figures , one of course is "Vlad the Impaler" the other is "Countess Elizabeth Bathory" sad.gif ....B

A portrait of the Bloody Lady of Čachtice.Countess Erzsébet Báthory (Báthory Erzsébet in Hungarian, Albeta Bátoriová(-Nádasdy) in Slovak, Elżbieta Batory in Polish, 7 August (?), 1560 21 August, 1614), was a Hungarian countess from the renowned Báthory family.

She is considered the most infamous serial killer in Hungarian and Slovak history and is remembered as the Bloody Lady of Čachtice (Csejte), after the castle near Trenčín, in Royal Hungary, in present-day Slovakia, where she spent most of her life.

After her husband's death, she and her four alleged collaborators were accused of torturing and killing dozens of girls and young women. In 1610, she was imprisoned in Čachtice Castle, where she remained until her death three years later. Her nobility allowed her to avoid trial and execution. Three of her four alleged collaborators were put to death.
The Báthory case has inspired many stories, featuring the countess bathing in the blood of

Random trivial fact of the Countess Bathory: A vague representation of her is in Diablo 2! grin2.gif

In addition to Vlad the Impaler:

Dracula doesnt exist, he's just a fictional character of Bram Stoker's novel. I dont remember if Stoker really specified the location of the castle that took place in his novel. If you google around, you'll find that Vlad the Impaler's (Vlad III Dracula) castle is Bran Castle:

Wow scary tongue.gif

Celumnaz
heard a story he would drop coins in a public place and hide behind corners and bushes with some guards and watch to see if anyone picked them up. if so, he'd stake em (or some other gross torture/death)
story went, ppl there were so scared, they were honest and nobody would pick up even coins lying there on the road...
true? extreme times call for extreme measures or of the cruel he was one of the best at it? dunno, just something I heard.
cruelty and stupidity seem limitless sometimes, doesn't matter race creed or status

I think you are confused by what they are saying here. The character "Dracula" is fictional. Vlad the Impaler was in fact real. The castle was his.

There' a good book if you can find it that explains about Vlad Dracul, his life, deeds, myths and historical facts. It's called 'In search of Dracula' by Raymond T. McNally and Radu Florescu. It should help you to decipher the the truth about him.

The story of Dracula was based on Vlad the Impaler - he was real, and he lived in the castle. He would kill people in the name of God, by setting their bodies atop spikes and letting their body weight slowly impale them. It was said he also drank their blood. And as previous mentioned, Elizabeth Báthory also provided inspiration for Bram Stoker - she apparently indulged in things like (highlight if you wanna know, a bit yuck) putting young girls in cages full of spikes, then having someone poke through the cage with a hot rod, causing the girl inside to flail about and stab herself repeatedly on the spikes and Elizabeth lay under it, bathing. These two people were simply what inspired Bram Stoker to write Dracula - they existed, the character of Dracula did not. When people refer to 'the real life Dracula,' they in fact mean Vlad.

SOme things that are often overlooked when speaking of Vlad the Impaler.

(1) He spent years in a Turkish prison. I imagine that will screw up any adolescent.

(2) His father was a member of "The Order of the Dragon", a distibuished group of soldiers/knights/lords sworn to protect Christian Europe from Muslim nations (like the Ottoman empire). The name Dracul comes from this Order (Dracul = Dragon).

(3) WHile he was reknowned as a sadistic man, he was also involved in a ridiculous number of plots and assassination attempts against him, mostly by the landowners of Romania called the Boyars.

(4) He beat the socks off the Turks when they tried to invade Eastern Europe. THe impaling of bodies was done to show the Turks that any foriegn invader will be met with the most extreme of punishments. It is believed that he learned this very technique while imprisoned by the Turks.

One of the best stories I remember about Vlad is that when the Turkish uh..king?...prince?...sent emissaries to treat with Vlad and they refused to remove their turbans when requested, he had the turbans nailed to their foreheads. GOtta love Vlad, that whacky scamp!

Okay okay im on track now.

No such thing as Dracula but there is Vlad who pretty much does things like Dracula.

Also if he was so evil and horrible why did'n't they arrest him?

If they couldn't kill him, and they lived in fear of him, AND he was the ruler of the land.... exactly who do you think would offer to go in and try to arrest him? Right or wrong, he was the ruler, and his army was doomed to serve him.
Iele
that's true..when he ruled valahia none had the guts to insubordinate him..but the turks, that really wanted to conquer valahia and the other romanian countries.vlad tepes was sadic indeed ,but in that time this was a necesary thing in order to protect his people and country..altghough he overdid it many times grin2.gif..he was a great strategist and had a cruel ending being betrade by his own brother, radu, who wanted the crown of valahia
Iele
oh..and his castle is to be sold because romanians are too incapable to keep it,and i am sorry to say this because i am a romanian but bran(the castle's name)should be in our state patrimony..also there is another castle in the mountains, a ruination now that is said to be his,but no ghost in there

nonsense...the people loved and feared him both, he was giving them the protection they needed from turks(which when invading they used to kill, steal, rape all this representing at least of the bad they could have done)so for us, romanians, he is more a hero than a cool blooded killer

The horror of the Bloody Countess
Weird Wednesday...With Chris Laursen

Recent news stories of human trafficking and foreign maids being held prisoner pale in comparison to the horrific legend of a sixteenth century noblewoman who not only enslaved her servants, but brutally and sadistically tortured him. But how much of the bloody tale of "Countess Dracula" is historically accurate?

That's a very good piont to make. Vlad is still revered as a saviour of the country.
